The new Twingo is now rear-engined and gets a choice of two engines. First is an all-new SCe 70 engine, a normally aspirated derivative of Renault’s TCe lineup of engines.

This 999 cc three-cylinder engine makes 70 hp and 91 Nm. The second option is a smaller 898 cc 3-cylinder Renault TCe 90 engine that is turbocharged to produce 90 hp and 135 Nm.

The city runabout measures 3.59 m in length, 1.64 m in width and 1.55 m in height. It gets a wheelbase of 2.49 m and a 219 liter boot capacity. The length of the new Twingo has been cut short by 10 cm but Renault has managed to give an extra 13 cm of wheelbase.

What I am eager to know is the weight of the new twingo with its new natural aspirated Sce 70 999cc 3 cylinder engine with 70hp/91Nm.

With its 5 gears and limited hp and torque it is not made for long runs on the 120 km/h interstate given the top speed of this car is probably around 157-160 km/h. But as a citycar it has to feel fairly brisk running around town..
The new three 2014 PSA triplets (citroen/peugeot/toyota) with their 998cc inline 3 with 68hp/93Nm does fairly good around town due to its low weight (840kg)..

The new Clio is lightweight for its size at 980kg with the cheapest 1150cc inline 4 with 75hp/103Nm so the Twingo better be lighter with its smaller less torque 999cc inline 3 engine.
You could go for the 898cc turbocharged TCE 90 with 90hp and 135Nm torque in the Twingo but I personally prefer a natural aspirated engine even though it is down on power.. and that TCE 90 do not seem to be as frugal as renault claim..
Even the ford fiesta with the 1L ford ecoboost with 100hp gets slightly better combined MPG than the 90hp TCE 90 in the clio.. (56.5 mpg vs 54.3 mpg)..
The TCE 90 in the twingo is slighty modified and they talk about an electric wastegate that should improve the fuel economy.. Not sure if the clio’s Tce 90 engine comes with an electric wastergate..
