The production version of the Suzuki Authentics/Maruti Ciaz was patented in China recently. Here are leaks from the patent office showing all angles of the car, released by Chinese news outlet AutoHome.

To be made by the Changan Suzuki joint venture in China from the end of the year, the production model may not use the ‘Authentics’ branding in the Chinese market. Leaving out the obvious differences in the grille, lights and bumpers, the car stays true to the Authentics/Ciaz concept.

The Ciaz is the replacement to the SX4 sedan which has spent an unsatisfactory life in India. Barring price revisions, a diesel engine, heavy discounts, and a facelift, sales of the car flagged and averaged 255 units in the last six months.

The Ciaz’s engines are not confirmed, and Autohome is reporting a 1.6L petrol engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox or a CVT. In India, Maruti would need a diesel engine option to go with it, which either has to come from Fiat (1.3L or 1.6L Multi-jet) or is a high-displacement motor Maruti is developing at home. An AMT is another option for the petrol engine.

The Maruti Ciaz will launch in the second half of the year.

If Suzuki doesnt learn from failures, what should one comment!! If Kizashi was something was an able example, it would be prudent for them to launch this vehicle without much changes from the design part from the concept version to that of production version. When Suzuki showcased the concept of the Kizashi in the Auto Expo, it was definitely a futuristic car. Yes it was too much to be a production car when we thik about the cost viabilities, the design should have somewhat similar to the concept. And we saw destiny of the model, especially in India. And when I saw the concept Ciaz at the Auto Expo, apart from the “wow” factor, what I thought immediately was the fact that it would never see the light of day as the production version.

When Honda launched their futuristic 4th generation City in India Honda tasted huge success with that single product and it continued for many years. If that example was helpful for Suzuki in some ways, I would urge them to launch the Ciaz without much SX4-mation to the Ciaz and we will give you another success. If Suzuki’s journey from 1983 in India is not sufficient to understand us, flood the market with the Estilos, Alto 800s, SX4s and so on…..

It will still sell if they manage to get 1.6 multijet diesel from fiat. Not sure about the home grown diesel for maruti though.
