Jaguar India have started bookings for the 2014 Jaguar XJ, ahead of a market launch which will take place in June this year. Customers can reserve the car for INR 5 lakhs. The 2014 XJ was shown at the Auto Expo last month, where it was also announced to enter local assembly.
The luxury sedan will be brought into the country via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route with local assembly taking place at JLR's Pune facility, which already assembles the Jaguar XF and the Land Rover Freelander 2.
Jaguar have confirmed that there will be two engine options for the updated XJ, one petrol and one diesel. The petrol motor is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine (a Ford EcoBoost unit) producing 240 PS at 5,500 rpm and 340 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. The petrol XJ claims to do 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, a top-speed of 241 km/h and has a fuel efficiency of 9.4 km/l.
The diesel variant is powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine producing 275 PS at 4,000 rpm and 600 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. It is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, while the top-speed and fuel economy stand at 250 km/h and 12.9 km/l respectively.
Both variants are paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission sending drive to the rear wheels. For India, Jaguar only sells the long wheelbase version of the XJ. The locally assembled 2014 XJ will compete with the locally assembled Mercedes S Class, while Audi India will launch the 2014 A8 facelift at about the same time.
