Yamaha is reportedly developing a 125 cc version of the Ray, likely to be launched in September 2014.

A report on Overdrive says that the Ray 125 would be launched around September this year. The Ray 125 is likely to carry the same 113 cc engine that does duty on the current Ray, only with increased bore specifications.

The report also says that this scooter is likely to carry disc brakes at the front and that this will not be a performance oriented scooter, but a scooter that would focus on fuel efficiency. The Ray 125 is set to be the Japanese company's last scooter before it shifts its focus back to motorcycles.

Yamaha Ray Z
Encouraged by the sales of the Yamaha Ray, the company launched the Yamaha Ray Z, targeting male customers.

Already in development is an update for the R15 and the FZ. Yamaha had also showcased the R25 concept at the Auto Expo 2014, showing its intent to launch it in India to compete with the Honda CBR250 R and the Suzuki Inazuma.

The 125 cc scooter segment is starting to get crowded, with the existing players like the Suzuki Access 125, Suzuki Swish about to be joined by recent announcements like the Honda Activa 125 and Hero Dare 125.

The Yamaha Ray has been performing well in the 110 cc segment so far, notching up some decent numbers, proving instrumental in the company's 37 percent annual growth last year.
