Auto Expo Live – Tata Nano Twist F-Tronic Concept revealed

Posted on: Feb 5, 2014 - 5:25pm IST

The Tata Nano Twist F-Tronic Concept is a combination of the Nano Twist engineered with F-Tronic technology. F-Tronic is a five-speed Automated Manual Transmission with a Mechatronic Unit.

The F-Tronic system is supplied by Magneti Marelli who is a technology supplier to Formula 1 teams. The car features an electro-hydraulic mechanism which uses an electronic control unit and a hydraulic system to supervise clutch usage and gear shifting, allowing the driver to shift gears without a clutch. Tata explains the shifting action is as “smooth as a finger shift” and the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) is at the heart of the system that manages the gear changes.

The vehicle is able to deliver 15-20 percent more fuel efficiency over a conventional automatic transmission unit and is on par with “any conventional manual transmission” says Tata.

Oh My Goodness!!! Look at the quality of Fabrication and the quality of materials used!! This is quiet a lot evolution considering the other basic cars in Indian market. I hope this is just the beginning and also hope to see a lot more advancement.

The front Power Window switches were supposed to be behind the Gear shit, and not in front, I guess.

Good news, looks pretty cool and classy now. The fake wood inserts, new steering, EPS and AMT….very good additions. The quality seems to have really gone up, the Maruti small cars looks cheap and seriously low cost now.

I’ve been contemplating buying a city car from the last 18 months….and probably this is the best I can have in India !
