IAB Speculation – Maruti YL1 (SX4 replacement) to be called ‘Ciaz’?

Indian Autos Blog has received a tip that the upcoming Maruti YL1 sedan, the replacement to the SX4, could be called the ‘Ciaz’.

The Maruti Ciaz, previewed by the Suzuki Authentics Concept at Auto Shanghai 2013, has been revealed through spyshots on the internet last year, and the first prototypes carried completely revamped exterior and interior designs.

The car is sporty and elegant, featuring a long wheelbase, a strong character line and a low roofline.

The entire cabin is rich in beige, and though it has parts that can be traced back to cheaper Marutis like the Swift and Ertiga, it emerges as a much better place than the SX4.

To keep up with the VW Vento, Skoda Rapid, Nissan Sunny and the new Honda City, Maruti has improved the rear knee room and included an aircon vent there.

The concept’s proportions have cascaded into the production car, but the snazzy taillights, exhaust tips and alloy wheels apparently have not made it.

Spyshots also show a music system with the design and finish of a Volkswagen, an auto climate control system and steering-mounted buttons for audio and Bluetooth furnishing the high-end variant.

Little is known about the powertrains planned for the Ciaz. While the petrol could be a dialed up version of the 1.4-liter K Series engine matched to a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission, the diesel motor could either come from Fiat (the 1.3L MultiJet) or be Suzuki’s first in-house 1.5L diesel engine.

Next would you like to read more about the or more about Maruti Suzuki?

“he concept’s proportions have cascaded into the production car, but the snazzy taillights, exhaust tips and alloy wheels apparently have not made it.” – Meaning they have taken away everything that added character to the design. This is typically Suzuki, remember Kizashi? And they really have an image issue, as people don’t think Brand Maruti deserves more an a million bucks whatever the model is.

Is Suzuki placing the new SX4 in a higher segment? (that of Jetta and Cruze?) Because this looks premium and will definitely cost more than the current sx4

Of course, it looks much more premium than the current car and will sure cost a bit more than the current one, I think.
But will be in the league of the Vento’ Verna in terms of pricing for sure.

Don’t worry, Suzuki concepts and production cars are world apart. To compare, concept is like Kareena or Priyanka in full makeup and production is Kareena or Priyanka without any makeup. You know what I mean 🙂
