The body shell of Hyundai’s Ford EcoSport rival, the ix25, has been spied in China. The Hyundai ix25, Autohome says, will make its global debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April this year.

The Hyundai ix25 will be positioned below the Tuscon sharing parts with the new i20.

After numerous spyshots of the ix25 compact SUV being tested both in Korea and in China, Autohome brings us a clear image of the compact crossover’s proportions. The styling cues at the rear look very familiar, especially the taillight portion, to the current i20 that’s being sold in India. Also seen is a flat roofline and a beltline sweeping upward.

The ix25 will be manufactured in China by Beijing Hyundai Motor Co, a joint venture partnership between China’s Beijing Automotive Group and Hyundai. The compact SUV will be pitted against the Ford EcoSport and the VW Taigun in China.

The ix25 is built on the same platform as the next-generation i20 which debuts at the Paris Motor Show this year. However, reports sound confident that the ix25 will come sooner than the hatchback.

Certainly this Fluidic 2.0 is a more mature design than the earlier versions. The Hyundai will be more comfortable and plusher than the Ecosport; though the latter will be more fun to drive. The customer wins in both cases !

The rear looks very similar to the current i20? I guess you guys meant the Grand i10? the tail lamps, by no means are like the ones on the i20!

For sure it’s Hyundai’s language of design….must be ix25 as quarter glass is absent….restricted length of four metre. Must be an output of initial trail run (shell in Gray) as lot of alignments are to be tuned. Thick C pillar gives a sturdy look but may become a blockage while reversing.

I wasn’t yet convinced with renderings but this shell confirms that Hyundai’s design team has grown mature. Big thumbs up.
