Mercedes-Benz India will launch the 2014 S Class on January 8th 2014. In our previous report, we mentioned that Mercedes dealers had already commenced the pre-bookings of the new S Class in India for INR 25 lakhs. And as we mentioned earlier, Mercedes will launch only the S 550 variant initially.
Powered by a 4,663cc V8 petrol engine outputting 448 hp and 700 Nm of torque, the S 550 does the 0-100 km/h dash in 4.8 seconds while the top-speed is limited to 250 km/h. Average fuel economy in the European Driving Cycle is rated at 10.98 km/l for this variant.
The new S Class will be brought into the country via the CBU (Completely Built up Unit) route. Production of the car takes place at Sindelfingen, Germany. Only the long wheelbase model will be sold in India.
The volume seller of the S Class range, the S 350 BlueTEC diesel, will arrive in the country sometime in the middle of next year. With the arrival of the diesel model, local assembly of the new S Class will start at the Chakan plant in Maharashtra.
The S 350 is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 producing 254 hp and 620 Nm of torque. In Europe, the S 350 achieves 16.94 km/l.
A previous report suggested that Mercedes would introduce a Launch Edition of the car when it goes on sale early next year.
