According to a report on Overdrive, Mercedes-Benz India's dealers have commenced pre-bookings for the 2014 S Class. The pre-booking amount is INR 25 lakhs. Set to go on sale in the first half of January next year, Mercedes India will first launch the S500 limited edition (Launch Edition).
Only 125 units of the S500 Launch Edition will be allocated for India, and this variant will be brought into the country via the CBU (Completely Built up Unit) route.
However, this variant may not be the volume seller for the brand, as it is powered by a 4,663cc V8 petrol engine outputting 448 hp and 700 Nm of torque. 0-100 km/h takes 4.8 seconds, and the top-speed is restricted to 250 km/h, while the average fuel efficiency in the European Driving Cycle is rated at 10.98 km/l. For India, Mercedes will offer the car in two colors - black and white.
The volume spinner of the S Class range, the S350 BlueTEC diesel, will arrive by the end of June 2014. Along with the arrival of the S Class diesel, Mercedes India will also commence CKD (Completely Knocked Down) assembly of the flagship.
The S350 diesel is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 producing 254 hp and 620 Nm of torque. The diesel accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, while its top-speed is limited to 250 km/h. In the European driving cycle, the S350 achieves 16.94 km/l.
The S Class is available in standard and long wheelbase versions, but don't expect the former to launch here as India is more fond of the rear seat in its limousines.
