The Toyota Etios Cross has been unveiled in Brazil and here are the studio images released by Toyota Brazil. What this is, is basically an Etios with a rough-road package, much like the VW Cross Polo that was launched in India a couple of months ago.
The front fascia is characterized by a silver skid guard and an additional bumper. The standard front bumper is finished in a black plastic, as are the side moldings and the rear bumper giving it a rugged look.
Aside from these, the Etios Cross receives new diamond cut alloy wheels, silver roof rails, and the bootlid gets an 'Etios Cross' badge.
Inside, the Etios Cross receives a black center console (just like the regular Etios in Brazil which was recently updated with this feature) combined with chrome highlights for the aircon vents.
The local media report that the Etios Cross is based on the top-end XLS model and hence features such as steering mounted controls, ABS and airbags come part of the standard equipment. In addition to the XLS model, the seats come with an 'Etios Cross' badge embroidered onto the fabrics.
Mechanically, the Etios Cross is powered by the same 1.5-liter Flex fuel motor that produces 96.5 bhp. While the top-end Etios XLS retails at 42,490 Brazilian Reals (INR 11.5 lakhs), the Etios Cross is priced at 45,690 Reals (INR 12.36 lakhs).
In Brazil, Toyota hasn't received the response it expected from the Etios brand, and this Cross variant is another attempt to increase sales (a mildly refreshed Etios was launched in Brazil recently) and buy some time until the next gen Etios is ready.
