Since its unveiling at the IIMS 2013 in September, the Honda Mobilio has amassed 5,000 bookings from the domestic market according to local media reports. HPM representatives who spoke to Indonesian journalists at yesterday's unveiling of the top-end Mobilio Prestige variant said they were pleased with the number of reservations, but weren't willing to share targets.
Honda opened Mobilio bookings at the Indonesian motor show and had unveiled the top-end variant in Jakarta yesterday.
HPM's marketing director Jonfis Fandy said the 'E' variant, priced at 180 million rupiah, received the highest demand. Interestingly Fandy added that deliveries would begin in January or February, perhaps a few weeks earlier than previously reported launch dates.
The company aims to secure a 20% market share in the national LMPV market (low cost or light MPV market) which is dominated by the Toyota Avanza and the Daihatsu Xenia. The other competitor is the India-made Suzuki Ertiga which has entered the top 5 best selling vehicles in Indonesia, in its debut year.
Honda expects about 5% of Mobilio customers to opt for the Prestige variant.
