Report – Ford EcoSport records 60,000 bookings in India

Posted on: Nov 26, 2013 - 12:01pm IST

Ford India’s Managing Director Joginder Singh told business newspapers last week that bookings for the Ford EcoSport have topped 60,000 orders. Earlier, Ford had stopped taking bookings for the 1L Ecoboost variant owing to supply limitation, but it is learned now that EcoSport bookings have been suspended altogether.

Ford has delivered about 25,000 units of the vehicle since sales opened in June, and waiting periods extend between 3-5 months depending on the variant.

Ford EcoSport launched in India

Parallel to the Indian launch, Ford India kicked off exports starting with South Africa, and added Australia, Honduras, Nicaragua and Guatemala to the list in October, recording an all-time combined monthly wholesale of 14,935 units.

Priced between 5.82-9.37 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), the Ford EcoSport is available (or should be available again, shortly) in Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium (O) trims. There are three diesel and six petrol variants on sale, with the latter available with automatic transmission and turbocharging.

In the months of July, August, September and October, the EcoSport has beaten its main rival Renault Duster, but numbers following the launch tend to generally be high for any new vehicle, and cannot be put into perspective until sales level out.

In Brazil though, the EcoSport is outselling the Duster consistently. For annual sales until October 2013, the EcoSport is at the 15th position of the Brazilian auto market (56,896 units), comfortably outpacing the Renault Duster which is in 22nd place (38,848 units).

I’m from Surat(Guj) gone to book ecosport but they have stopped booking on any variant right now, it frustrates me to be in waiting and now they have stopped booking WTF guys, nice car but will lose customers if there is rival in about 6 months or so waiting for another urban SUV from any one.

Booking is suspended ??? For how long ?? This does not bode well for the company which is again disappointing the customers. Firstly the price was jacked up suddenly.. now booking suspended as the Co is overwhelmed by the sheer numbers. I am sure in the long run this is going to put off the customers. In the mean time, what is Maruti, Honda, and other car majors doing ? Sleeping I suppose!!! Wish there was really a competition for Eco Sport.

I have brought ambient diesel month back and its very good. Its giving me mileage around 18 to 20kmpl in city and highway.. As the diesel vehicle its pick-up is very good.. And as compared to duster its feel more like urban suv. The light weight steering is very nice..AC is also powerfull,

Ford ecosport is a stylish vehicle. Also it,s range is good. As per my choice it’s best suv in this segment.

It’s time to decide on Ford EDGE too with 2.0 TDCi engine.

  6. Dr. Nayak says:

Unfortunately the Ecoboost engine is not made in India, and is imported from another country with little or no engineering muscle compared to India. This is because they thought; the outdated turbo charged regular engine will be good for the Indian cow class. I think this may teach a lesson to these “Urban Ghetto MBA’s” that the rural Indians are more sophisticated than their counterpart.

    Way to Go.. Ford…!

Brazil, China & India altogether sales numbers would have 2 lac units since the launch.

By the time Maruti, Hyundai & Honda launches their version of urban SUV, Ecosport would be well established & improved vehicle…!

Good thing about this car is it has beaten all the negative reviews prior to launch and won heart of indian customers later..!
