Spied – Tata Aria Facelift continues testing, but when will it launch?

The Tata Aria Facelift continues testing and the latest set of spyshots come courtesy of MotorBash. In early March this year at the Geneva Motor Show, Tata had shown this facelifted Aria with a few updates. And even before its Geneva debut, the Aria facelift had been spied on Indian roads.

The Aria refresh carries a lot of subtle changes. The headlights for example gets smoked lenses and the taillights receive clear lenses with a chrome border. The Aria shown at Geneva sported different seat fabrics and a dual-tone exterior paint job.

The Aria facelift shown in Geneva had a revised two-tone interior with an AT.

The Geneva show car also had an automatic transmission and the 2.2-liter diesel engine was putting out 158bhp rather than the current 140bhp. Was it producing 18bhp extra because it was an auto transmission variant? Tata did not go into details.

However, Tata has not shown any signs of launching the refreshed Aria. Even during the Horizonext event (which saw a slew of Tata products being updated), there was no mention about the Aria.

Is this Aria testing an automatic transmission?

Sales of the Aria have been abysmal since its launch in October 2010. After managing single digit sales figures for the months of April, May and June (8, 3 and 2 units respectively), the Aria sold 26 units in July. Tata may be banking on the refreshed Aria and the additional automatic transmission variant to give the sales a much needed push. Will it work though?

Do we know if the refreshed Aria is being launched soon? Would it have the re-tuned engine with a 6 speed GB and 19in alloys?

ARIA is the most Technologically equipped vehicle TATA has ever produced. The Positioning, Pricing initially itself was wrong. ARIA’s base variant was launched only in a 4X4 Trim & that too was priced more than the high end Innova. TATA after burning their fingers launched 4X2 version but that never took off & they again launched an all stripped down version for 9.95L even that din’t click. Sad Times for TATA.

BTW checked ARIA’s website for the prices & it said that they are updating the pricelist. Any Idea whether they are increasing or decreasing the Prices???

I can think of both cases, Increase and Decrease.

Increase – Dollar value, High Input costs.

Decrease – Poor Sales, Sluggish Auto Market.

Admins any idea on the Price of ARIA from your Sources?

Sad to see that a Gem of a vehicle is not performing well.

Tata needs to make major surgery on the Aria. They need to make some sheet metal changes and shape it like a SUV instead of a van as it looks like now. Even a 5 year old can tell them that by just changing the headlights and tail lamps will do absolutely nothing for the sales. Maybe instead of the 4-5 Arias sold per month they may increase it to 10-11 Arias.

      Hello Kapil,

Last we heard from Tata officials, they did not rule out an auto box on the Storme.
