The 2014 Range Rover Sport will be launched in India on October 17th. The new Sport, which had its global debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show in March this year, has recently gone on sale in its home market of Britain.
Touted to be the most powerful and agile Land Rover ever made, Indian Autos Blog had a first hand experience driving the car on British roads. You can read our review of the new Range Rover Sport here. Land Rover officials had informed us that two engine options will be available for the Indian market, one petrol and one diesel.
The 3.0-liter V6 diesel chosen for India produces 292hp and 600Nm of torque. 0-100km/h takes only 7.2 seconds while the top-speed is restricted to 222km/h. The Sport with this engine option has its average fuel efficiency claimed at 7.5L per 100km (13.33km/l) while the CO2 emissions are 199g/km in the UK driving cycle.
Land Rover India will also offer the Sport with the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine, found in all of Jaguar's 'R' range of cars and the 2013 Range Rover. This fire-breather outputs 510hp and 625Nm of torque. 0-100km/h takes a mere 5.3 seconds while top-speed is restricted to 250km/h. The 5.0-liter V8 Sport claims to deliver 12.8L per 100km (7.81km/l) with CO2 emissions at 298g/km in the UK driving cycle.
Expect prices for the new Sport to start in the region of INR 1-1.2 crore rupees.
