Spied – Nissan Terrano caught fully undisguised two days before its premiere

Posted on: Aug 18, 2013 - 1:11pm IST

Back in February, Nissan disclosed its plan to launch an assault on the SUV market in India. Based on the same platform as the well localized Renault Duster, sketches of the Nissan Terrano were released.

In these images sent to us by our Twitter follower Mrunal Gandhi, fully unclothed Terranos stand in a yard populated by fellow Nissan cars.

Unlike the Pulse and Scala which came with changed bumpers and lights and attracted criticism, the Terrano, thankfully, is individualized with new sheet metal panels. Components such as the lights, bumpers and grille are completely new, and adding to that, the hood, doors and the tailgate are reskinned. Darkened pillars and new alloy wheels can also be seen.

Windshield glass is carried over but all other elements constituting the rear are different.

At the front, the Terrano resembles larger Nissan SUVs and pickups, whereas the rear fascia will make the Chevrolet Orlando’s cheeks go red! The same two engines servicing the Duster, the 1.5-litre dCi and a 1.6-liter petrol, would serve on the Terrano. It remains to be seen if Nissan would offer two tuning states with the diesel motor.

Reacting to the criticism of the alliance’s lazy rebadging ways, Nissan have reskinned the entire car.

Watch out for the Nissan Terrano in dealerships from October. Expect variants to be about 50k more expensive than the equivalent Duster variants.

The problem is, Duster itself is overpriced by at least 1.5 lacs for the lousy equipment and quality it carries. And this machine will go north of that and that is not a good sign!

      Agreed Ganesh.

DUSTER itself is overpriced & TERRANO will be priced 50k more. Donno what these guys at NISSAN & RENAULT are thinking.

Congrats on a terrific scoop! Overall, the Terrano definitely looks beefier than the Duster. The front stays true to the distinctive appeal of global Nissan SUVs. The tail light cluster though seems a tad over-sized, and therefore awkward. So is the lower part of the front bumper. Being angled a bit too sharply at the edges makes it look imbalanced. But the snazzy alloys and chunky tyres really look the part. Sadly, the tacky door handles and that eyesore of a keyhole remain. On the whole, a pretty decent effort from Nissan. And it’s amazing how they’ve stayed absolutely true to the initial sketches.

the duster designers failed to carry the punchy look of the face of the duster to the tail as well .. there were some expectations from nissan guys to redesign the rear and make it suit the front while making a re-badged duster .. but unfortunately they made it worse 🙁 .. hope the interior looks good ..

useless !! 50 K more i dont think people have so much craze towards the logo – Nissan to pay extra premium.. may be it would ‘be ‘yes’ if its with a Badge AUDI 😀 rear doest look good, may be fronts are bit OK, i would say who ever buy this should be one who doesnt care to spend his money !! ;)even duster is worth only upto 11-11.5 lac maxx !! that to just for its looks

really, nissan won’t be aiming to explode our market with this.. But globally, Teranno II is a good brand and they are trying to revive that, which it sure will be..

hmm if that is the case either the Owder should be the dumb or the listener to whom he says that he owns a new terrano from Nissan !! 😀 if some one says that to me i would simply say its ” a Facelifted version of Duster ” and for that newer looks now company have charges more premium… 😉
But agree our ppl mentality is like below !! a 2005 model swift with suzuki logo if still available in showroom as new sale ppl would buy and the same case as 2013 swift with a Chevrolet logo people would say a big Noooo !! first people should get educated on what is value for money and what is actually a brand..
