According to CarSizzler.com, Maruti Suzuki is distributing pre-launch training material to dealer sales executives to prepare them for the launch of the Maruti Wagon R Stingray. The report further adds that the variant will be introduced on the 20th of August in three variants - LXi, VXi and VXi Optional.
Circa 50,000 rupees more expensive than the Wagon R, the Stingray's positioning is such that it closes the gap between the Wagon R brand the Ritz brand.
India's B1 segment has remained silent in the last couple of years until Nissan introduced the de-contented Micra 'Active' variant last month at a very attractive price. Hyundai announced the all-new Grand i10 a few days back, a showroom-ready product with an optional diesel engine, ready to launch before Diwali. These two important developments could have directed Maruti to act, and since the Wagon R has already received a facelift earlier this year, the only direction the brand can head or grow in is by receiving variant or feature extensions.
CarSizzler reports that the top-end Wagon R Stingray would be equipped with ABS, Driver Airbag, an updated audio system, Projector headlights, and electrically adjustable ORVMs.
The sting for the Wagon R Stingray comes from its trusty 1L K-series engine that dishes out 68PS @ 6,200rpm and a maximum torque of 90Nm @ 3,500rpm. The same 5-speed manual transmission is retained.
