The Ford EcoSport has just gone on sale in India and you can check out the prices of the all new Ford right here. Now, we finally answer all the unanswered questions. How does it compare to the Renault Duster? How does it compare to other sub-4m cars? How does it compare to a similarly priced hatchback?

We take a look at the prices of the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster in this post.

Note: All prices are ex-Showroom, Delhi

Ford EcoSport launched in India Mars Red front three quarter

What if I want Petrol:

The 1.5-liter 4 cylinder engine in the Ford produces 112PS of power and from driving the Ford Fiesta we know that this is a good engine, tried and tested, offers good performance and fuel economy.

The 1.6-liter 4 cylinder Renault puts out 104PS of power. In terms of engine performance and technology, the Ford is clearly superior, there is no argument there.

There is no denying that the Duster is a larger car than the EcoSport.

The argument comes when we talk about size. Where the EcoSport’s 3999mm length classifies it as a sub-4m car, the Duster has a generous 4315mm length. In terms of interior space, the Duster is definitely larger in size than the EcoSport.

However, in this post, we’re not talking about the size or performance. It’s all about the money!

Where the Ford EcoSport is priced at INR 5.59 lakhs for the base petrol, the Duster costs INR 7.99 lakhs.

If you’re looking at the top-end variants, the EcoSport 1.5 Petrol MT Titanium costs INR 7.51 lakhs while the Duster RxL Petrol costs INR 8.93 lakhs. We must tell you at this point that the EcoSport Titanium is feature rich and makes the Duster RxL feel spartan.

Its the mid level and low range models , was actually people go for .
Please try adding pics interiors/exterriors , so that will be more helpfull .
None of the moto websites does this .

      Hi Ram,

During the media drives/new car launches/any events taking place, the manufacturer never gets a low/mid level variant. Even the Press Cars are of the top-end variant only. We’ll try nevertheless to get you images of mid/low end models. Thank you for the feedback.

        Yes Anjan ,
But even after the press release , I never seen getting the all picdetails of entry level vehicles as it was done for Top models.
Any how thank you . This was a wonderful site to keep in touch with the auto trend .
        thanks .

All these excruciatingly long periods, most of the blogs talked about how Ford will get its pricing right. There was never a doubt about the quality of the car; people did not want their expectations to be crushed by the weight of the price. I am sure Ford had been reading these blogs and they’ve brought out a killer price. I am quite certain that this is only introductory and very soon there shall be a hike. This is the right time to go for it….petrol or diesel, it kills all competition. Will Duster bite the dust? Let’s see!

I agree that the Ecosport is priced very aggressively when compared to the Duster. This would hold good for the urban office goer with usage limited to city roads, and occasional highway and rough road usage. But I think people looking for proper SUV capability to use in places without good roads and regular highway usage would still prefer the Duster.

  • Dmitry

I don’t understand why u compare these two different cars just from the point of view of pricing? Obviously EcoSport is cheaper than Duster. But it is much smaller!! EcoSport is called mini-SUV but actually it just looks like SUV. In fact it is just a beefed up hatchback with cramped interiors. And Duster is much more spacious with a larger boot. EcoSport is and image car. Duster is more practical as family car. IMHO

  • Nihar

    This is great pricing.
With 5.6L base, it’s bang in the Swift category!
    Watch out Maruti :)

  • Ayyappan

I’ve always been vocal about the fact that Duster is highly overpriced for what it offers. At that price point I’d be mighty happy to pick up a Safari Storme. Even when you look at the pricing of Duster worldwide, it is pretty clear that they’re making a fool out of the unstoppable Indians :)

The point here is people felt that Duster can double up as a proper family car with a 5 seater cabin and a massive boot. And Ecosport is at a disadvantage here, being a sub 4 metre with a 4 seater cabin and a small boot. That’s precisely why Ford has priced the base variant aggressively, to divert the attention of wannabe Duster folks.

Having said that, at 9 lacs ex showroom for the Diesel top end variant, the Ecosport doesn’t appear value for money too for a sub 4 metre hatchback like car. The challenge here for Ford would be to sustain the customer interest in the long run with plenty of exciting options coming up.

Looks like you are against Ford ecosport in every sense..!

Could you please tell any one vehicle model in india which is offering 6 airbags, ABS,ESC,ISOFIX for child seat,Leather seats,Auto AC, Cooled glove box, Voice control,Rear parking sensors..etc for 9 lacs?

    • Porbu

Well said. The duster exported to the uk from India is cheaper there. Much cheaper than the Indian prices. I do not understand the hue and cry over the ecosports pricing. Agreed that it is cramped when compared to the duster. But it is much cheaper and better equipped and has better build quality when compared to the duster.

The price difference between variants is so huge that you can comfortably invest the savings on a tata nano.

The 2 mistakes are that the ecosport Variants are priced quite far apart and there is no option to have the ecoboost motor in a lower variant. It would have been nice to have a good petrol motor in a lower trim

    • GB

Nice thoughts Ayyappan. I also wonder the need for the 1.5 liter petrol mill. That 1 trim will not be able to avail of the sub 4M tax sop. This handicap is sure to reflect on the price across range. That said, I think Ford must be very confident with the Ecosport to have priced it so aggressively.
      Kudos to Ford !!

  • Rajesh

Anjan, you did it bro :) Just THE clarity needed to many here and shouldn’t we all say “It was WORTH THE WAIT”….BRAVO Ford and a hearty welcome to ES.

  • SUVfan

Ford has priced Ecosport very aggressively. I am afraid, it may get branded cheap. They could have priced around 10% more across variants. Even 5.99 for 1.5MT petrol would have been very good.

    • Rakesh Patel

SUVfan, Ford Ecosport Prices are infact correct, rather the top variants are on the higher side as this is a Compact SUV.
