The Ford EcoSport‘s pricing has stirred a hornet’s nest in the Indian B Segment. There is going to be a lot of hatchbacks and sub-four metre sedans in the line of fire.

So we thought we could bring our readers a basic price comparison of the Ford EcoSport with a sub 4 metre sedan and a premium hatchback. Let’s find out how well the new compact crossover fares against its perceived rivals.

To begin with, the Honda Amaze and the Maruti Swift Dzire face an imminent threat, considering that the Indian car buying mass is sold by the idea of a mini SUV. To them, the high seating position and the status that comes along with an SUV are attractive propositions.

Prices of all the cars are ex-showroom Delhi, according to the respective official websites.

The Ford EcoSport’s petrol range starts from Rs. 5.59 lakhs (1.5 MT Ambiente) and Rs. 8.45 lakhs (1.5 AT Titanium). The diesel range starts at Rs. 6.69 lakhs for entry level diesel while the fully loaded diesel variant (Titanium+) would set you back by Rs. 8.99 lakhs.

In comparison, the Honda Amaze’s petrol range starts from Rs. 4.99 lakhs to Rs. 7.57 lakhs. The diesel variants range from Rs. 6.03 lakhs to 7.66 lakhs.

Coming to the Swift Dzire, the petrol range is from Rs. 4.92 lakhs to Rs. 6.74 lakhs while the diesel range starts from Rs. 5.99 lakhs to Rs. 7.50 lakhs.

While there is a considerable gap between the respective top end versions, the entry level petrol and diesel variants of the EcoSport are sufficiently close to that of these popular sub four metre sedans, inviting the prospective customers to give the SUV a serious thought.

I am a proud owner of ecosport , I just can not understand why people say cramped interiors , believe me it has more space than maruthi swift and also swift dzire . And mainly more powerfull than both !!!

FORD dealer in Ahmedabad, Cargo Ford has started arm twisting customers with Rs 45000 compulsory accessories. Is any body from Ford hearing this. This may spell doom for FORD if such high headedness continues, customers may get diverted to HONDA Amaze.

Very nice views from various folks. ES is definitely a good to have car for major city commuters. For long drive/high way drives its good again but cramped interiors is something Ford should have seriously looked into.
I am sure people interested in duster will not move to ES for sure.
Actually I would love to have both these cars provided i could afford. :-)

I believe out of these two , EcoSport is definitely miles ahead as far as looks , fit & finish and the quality of interior Plastics / fabrics is concerned . It definitely looks & feels solid . The new 1.0 petrol engine has been awarded as the best engine of the year . Diesel mill is also quite powerful and efficient . Ford cars are also supposed to be the best driver cars after B.M.Ws. About engines Honda engines are also class leading .

You seem to be confused just because you find these two cars in the same price band . Otherwise definitely EcoSport is at least one class above the Amaze . I was infact planning for Verna diesel or Honda City . But now I have made up my for the new babe on the block .

    Hi IAB

      Hi VC,

The Amaze stands out for it’s class leading interior space and easy to drive nature (petrol). If you’re looking for a comfortable, no-nonsense car to fit 5 people with luggage in supreme confort, look no further than the Amaze.

The EcoSport is not as comfortable as the Amaze though. The EcoSport promises to offer you SUV like looks and ground clearance and on the higher-end models, there are a lot of features which appeal to the tech-savvy.

Both are really good cars. If you value comfort, we would suggest the Amaze and if you’re looking for a trendy runabout (bigger than a hatch), the EcoSport is a good buy. Suggest you drive both cars along with your family before you finalise your purchase.
