Maruti Suzuki Astar Cabriolet (3)We all must have dreamt of zooming down the street in a convertible car at some point either during college or when we earned our first pay cheque. Sure, there may be a lot of pollution and unfavorable weather conditions in India, but that doesn’t deter us from dreaming. The only affordable convertible in India is the San Storm which is neither aspirational nor well built.

Maruti gave a teaser of such a kind of vehicle with the A-Star cabriolet concept. It is a yellow-colored, soft top version of the A-Star hatchback. It can theoretically seat four people on its leather wrapped bucket seats.

At the rear, there are dual exhaust pipes with a tiny rear spoiler. Sporty alloy wheels compliment the overall look.

  7. Siddharth says:

Maruti/Suzuki was a disappointment at the auto expo. Except for the ertiga, every other model on display was a pathetic attempt, it goes on to show how Maruti is not serious in this market.

The model here, the A-Star ‘Cabriolet’ can kill passengers if it ever launched in the current guise. Have you seen the convertible mechanism? There are huge struts jutting into the cabin, crudely integrated onto the body which can kill passengers sitting in the back seat if the driver decides to take a sharp turn. The car looks horrible because of the shoddy work done by the maruti guys.

Advice: Ditch all this bullshit of showing badly modified cars Maruti, and its better not to display stuff you’re not going to ever launch in India than giving a pathetic display.

P.S. not doing crap like this saves money too.

I think its a cool thought of bringing the Cabriolet concept to india. You really need to see the car and i can bet u wont utter this nonsense after that….It looks fab, the convertible mechanism is manual and so looks crude, but i dont think Maruti will play with safety of people as their cars are build keeping all those aspects…are u from some other car manufacturer…hahahahah

  11. Vikram Viswanathan says:

Yes, someone needs to take the step in launching an affordable convertible in India. Though it might not set the sales on fire, it will add great sporty value to the brand.
