The GM-Wuling HongTu/N200 was the second car spied by Mr Sidh and posted on CarWale.com/Auto Bild. The HongTu is the second product from the SAIC stable GM India will introduce. GM has to work out a different name for the EECO slayer. Will they call it Sunshine? How will the Nissan Sunny marketing team react to that?
This vehicle is not new to IndianAutosBlog.com readers as our Gujarat based IAB fan Sagar Parikh photographed this vehicle on test a while back. It is equipped with disc brakes at the front and drums at the rear. The mules on test indicate that General Motors will produce luxury variants for passenger application along with cargo variants. Maruti follows a similar strategy branding the load-carrying model as EECO Flexi and Omni Cargo.
A 1.2-liter 85bhp petrol engine is used on the HongTu in China, but what will GM offer for India? Will they use the Beat’s 1.2 SMARTECH engine which is LPG ready? GM has also invested in CNG technology which cargo operators favor. The Beat’s 1-liter diesel is also available if the need arises.
This van is less than 4 meters long and qualifies as a small car for the Indian market. Excise duties will be 12% less and that will lead to an aggressive price.
Maruti EECO – you’ve had the segment all to yourself but some bad weather is ahead of you!

its true that maruti is giving nor satisfide quality in indian market it only takes advantage of early coming in indian market, as per quality concern i dont thik that u.s companies will make thier name bad in indian market as they are coming up strongly and silently.
GM is making a mistake again, they can update the existing aveo & U_VA as they new ones r there in other markets called as sonic available in diesel and petrol variants, if they bring it and price it properly it would big hit….bringing the sail model cars is waste of time as well as it would affect the brand image of chevorlet , as what travera did!!!
what ever tavera ,indian peole choose it for logng journy and giving mor than rs.10 per k.m to travelers. so tavera is not bad and also for your knowlage tavera is j d power awarded
cheap!
if some one audi owner he would looks at it like cheap’
GM India sold it soul when it sold 50% stake to SAIC.
Now at SAIC’s behest want to sell cheap crap from China. Either GM India must not have done their market study or just decided to take risk to launch China made junk in India.
Doesn’t GM India realize the stigma attached to Chinese products ? When it comes to purchases of vehicles which is considered a prestige by many Indians, how does GM India think they can get away selling Chinese junk?
Inspite of the made in china stigma, those chineese made phones are holding almost 35% of mobile marcket.Even the giants like Nokia ,Samsung they r also using cjineese kits.I think GM india is targetting the rural india with a cheap alternative way of transport. As it is seen that urban people r going for the expensive brands, but the marcket is more or less saturated…so i think it’s not as bad move as people r thinking.
Looks better than Eeco. 1L Smartec diesel will do wonders under the hood.
Thanks a lot for the credit again
