Indian Autos Blog readers already know that we have spoken about the X3 being locally assembled on the X1 variant post last week. The X3 will handle 4WD duties, while the X1 will remain a 2WD crossover.
If there is one German that just loves to bring its SUV’s in India, it has to be BMW. The company has launched almost its entire range of SUVs for the Indian Market. The only one that was remaining was the X3. Not any more.
The Auto Editor of NDTV, Siddharth Vinayak Patankar has tweeted that the new BMW X3 will see the Indian shores by June 2011. This news doesn’t come as a shock to us because the SAV has already been spotted testing several times.
Here's something our sources tell us - Assembly of the X3 could begin by the end of next month at Chennai.
The SAV that will come in June will be the second generation X3 (a.k.a F25). The F25 is more or less similar to its previous generation apart from a few styling differences. It is available in 3L 6 cyl petrol engine mated to a 8-speed automatic transmission. There are 2 and 3 liter diesel engine also available.
As of now it is too early to comment on the launch. But we expect 3 variants of X3 to come to the shores, just the way BMW did for the X1. The company also has plans to expand the production by June to accommodate the new SAV.
