Last year Mahindra made it public that two models from the Ssangyong lineup - Rexton and Korando C will make it to India. The Korando C is an all-new 5 seater with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine mated to a 6-speed transmission while the Rexton is a 7 seater available with three engine options across the world - a 2.7 liter 162 hp / 342 N·m common rail diesel, a 2.9 liter diesel and a 3.2 liter 217 hp / 310 N·m petrol engine.
For India, we can expect Mahindra to launch the 2.7-liter diesel engine which interestingly also powers the Axe. The Mahindra Axe is built for the armed forces and was displayed at the Auto Expo in 2008.
Spotted by Varun Sakhuja of the Car and Bike Show page on Facebook, this Ssangyong Rexton is fitted with chopped-off Scorpio tail lamps. The tailgate has been shrunk from the sides and it now accommodates a portion of the plastic bumper as well. Apart from these changes, it is similar in every aspect to the Rexton on sale globally.
We are sure Mahindra will not sell the Ssangyong models in their original form. There will be certain cosmetic upgrades, especially to the front fascia to resemble the flagship Scorpio. We are expecting the saw tooth grille on the Korando and Mahindra badges at the rear of both vehicles like we saw on the Renault Logan.
