For some reasons (that we really can’t understand), people in India like the VW Beetle a lot. It has been featured in various Bollywood movies, advertisements, posters and has been with us since the days of Hitler.

Well, to all those people who like the Beetle, we have a small surprise for you.

Here are some spy pics of the 2012 Beetle caught with a silly camouflage. The reason why it’s silly is because manufacturers generally camouflage their car to make sure that no pesky photographers would have any ‘inside scoop’ on what the car would look like before they intend to.

VW, on the other hand, has just used some body-colored duck tape around the headlamps. That’s it!

So yes, this is EXACTLY what the new Beetle would like.

The changes that are evident are the coupe like roof line and a reworked front end. There are also some new chiseled side moldings and a thickened C-pillar to refresh the old design.

We also notice a strange bulge on the rear wheel arch which may just be a part of the ‘light’ camouflage.

This Beetle will be built of the Golf VI platform and will have a 2.5-liter inline-five in the base models. A turbocharged version of the same engine may follow suit. Expect the debut at the Geneva Motorshow in March 2011.

We’ve speculated on the possibility Beetle being assembled in India. We have to remain patient till the car debuts in Switzerland before receiving any further updates.

Hi Sharwan, it is too cramped to sit in the rear seat, neither I too don’t know the reason why people liked this ‘Bug’. Instead, VW can plan to launch Golf, their successful international HB, above Vento for 9-10 L. I read somewhere that they are testing Golf in India and that would be possibly next entry from VW. Is that right? Do you have any update Shrawan?

i’ll wait to see what other people think but to me vw have really killed the beetle. it reminds me of a chrysler pt cruiser … not exactly a great car to remind one of. for my mind, to do a retro car you have to be bold. the original new beetle did that. maybe they are trying to emulate what audi did with the tt. the first had retro lines, the second was a more contempary design. with this beetle vw have just hit the original with the ugly stick.
