Truth or Lies? Yamaha has no plans for 250cc motorcycle this season

fazer_yamaha_250

Bajaj will launch the Ninja 250R soon, the Bajaj Pulsar 220 just underwent a minor surgery and HH Karizma is coming out with new features and possibly with FI technology. With a heap of motorbikes in this category, Yamaha should bring in the Fazer 250, shouldn’t they?

They don’t think so.

Is this wait and watch strategy or is the company keeping developments under wraps and away from prying eyes?

- Yukimine Tsuji, managing director and chief executive officer, India Yamaha Motor -

“We are not thinking of launching a bike in that (225-250 cc) range this festival season”

- Sanjay Tripathi, division head of product planning and brand management of Yamaha -

“We will launch a bike that would not only be the fastest in India, but it would be the fastest in the world.”

Both the above gentlemen operate out of the same office. I think. The fastest bike in the world could be the Yamaha R1, but haven’t Yamaha already launched this motorcycle in India? Or could it be a new version?

The company, according to Tripathi, will launch two new models by the middle of September, but he refused to divulge more details.

The vehicle is still in the testing phase with improvements incorporated based on the continuous feedback.

Yamaha’s diesel motorbike ready; Patent and Images describe how

Yamaha’s diesel motorbike ready; Patent and Images describe how

The age of diesel engines for motorcycles, some believe began (and ended) with the Royal Enfield Bullet Taurus. It needed a backbone made of steel, and teeth of titanium to bare the vibrations and harshness of riding one. If you were driving near one, you needed ear plugs.

While diesel engine have evolved to such a level that it terrorizes the gasoline engine’s existence, its application has began widening. Now Yamaha has put its head out and it could be the first manufacturer to offer diesel engines of 2-wheelers commercially.

Yamaha has filed patents for a new family of motorcycle-size turbodiesel engines in both inline-four and twin-cylinder layouts.

Obviously a diesel engine is heavy and big. Packaging needs to be thought out and that’s what these patents deal with. The arrangement of the different parts is matched to a 2-wheeler’s structure, for example the intercooler is placed above the engine saving space and the bike’s fuel tank is moved backwards.

Two Yamaha Motorcycles to roll out in India in 2009

name=”allowfullscreen” value=”true” />

The R15 is the coolest motorcycle you can buy for roughly a lakh of rupees in India. Yamaha is overjoyed with the kind of response India has given them, and it looks like they are back, which means it’s nothing but good news for bikers in India.

The response of the R15 has sparked Yamaha to launch more bikes. The Japanese manufacturer announced a few days back that two more bikes from their line-up will see Indian soil in the next year. Details are unclear, but one of them is rumored to be a 125 cc bike. IAB predicts that it should be the YZF-R125, which is already being sold in abroad markets and looks as aggressive as elder brother R15.

YMI is also planning on introducing a range of scooters in India, including models like Jog, Tmax and Majesty (all in 150-250cc range) in India and will take a decision about its possible introduction in due course, some of them which were spotted in Pune.

Totally Technical- The Enigma behind the 2009 R1 engine

Have you noticed that every time there is a new product from any of the auto giants, comes along a handful of totally news and never before seen technology. Now, Yamaha has launched the 2009 edition of its best selling R1 motorcycle and the main focus this time turns towards its engine.

Yamaha has become the first manufacturer to introduce a engine with crossplane crankshaft in its production line. This type of technology is seen only in MotoGP bikes and due to the advantages it offers, Yamaha has decided to put it into the bikes which come out of a production line.

MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi -

It’s very much like my M1 and its exciting to see so many MotoGP qualities now appearing on a bike for the road. The all new technology with crossplane crankshaft puts each crank pin 90 degrees from the other one. This results in a linear power delivery and with exorbitant amount of torque out of corners.
