Nissan India exports Micra to European countries. Ultimately the Made In India Micra will be shipped to over 100 countries including Africa and Middle East. Nissan manufactures RHD and LHD variants in diesel, “Pure Drive” petrol and petrol avatars.

Nissan has not been able to match its contemporary Volkswagen but will hope things will fall in place with the introduction of the V-Platform sedan this year and the NV200 MPV in 2012. It has sold about 15k Micras in India.

Nissan sells 2030 Micras in February

Nissan’s good run with the Micra continued in February as the company clocked 2030, its personal best since the launch back in July 2010. The Micra was introduced with the 3-cylinder 1.2-liter petrol engine. In December, the 1.5-liter dCi diesel was released and it has done a world of good to its sales. New nissan micra

This morning Nissan sent us a press release containing details of the Micra’s performance in India thus far. The company has managed to deliver 928 Micras to Indian customers since July 15.

Nissan adds that it has received over 3,000 bookings for the Micra in India from the time display Micras reached dealerships in the last week of May.

The Nissan Micra has been introduced only with a petrol engine and has recorded respectable numbers in its short stint in India. Nissan has to think about bringing in the diesel motor as well as the automatic transmission model to get a head start. General Motors is readying the Beat diesel and Maruti Suzuki is preparing the A-Star automatic. Both these models are in the Micra’s segment, so Nissan better work hard!

Nissan Micra

Nissan will unveil its first locally made car, Micra, in a function that will be held on the 14th evening in Delhi.

Nissan has put the Micra on display in showrooms since the end of May and is gauging customer response. It has registered over 1,500 bookings for the car and hasn’t yet allocated test drive vehicles.

It is early days for Nissan who as a company is learning the likes and dislikes of the Indian compact car buyer and has expressed that it will make necessary changes to its products to suit our tastes better. The Nissan Micra is an international model and will be sold in 160 countries across the world.

Nissan Micra India

The Nissan Micra has crossed the 1500 bookings mark in merely 6 weeks since bookings opened. The Nissan Micra has a week left for its official launch on July 14 2010.

This is a remarkable feat for a new entrant like Nissan, competing with established players like Maruti Suzuki, Ford and Chevrolet, with only 11 dealerships across the country. Seems like roping in Ranbir Kapoor for endorsing the Nissan Micra has worked for the moment.

The Nissan Micra would be launched only with a petrol engine and the 1.5 liter dCi diesel engine could be offered by the end of this year. We expect Nissan to competitively price the Micra between 3.5 to 5.25 lakh Rupees.

Suresh Rangarajan, Spokesperson, Nissan India -

The Nissan Micra will be launched in New Delhi on July 14. We are finalising the venue modalities and a formal invitation will be sent to the media shortly. And we also confirm that Micra pre-order bookings have crossed 1500 and we are satisfied with this overwhelming response.

Nissan India would be increasing the number of dealerships to 36 by March 2011 and to 100 by 2013. Nissan would be producing 80,000 units of the Micra at its Chennai plant in this fiscal year 2010-11 for both the domestic and export markets.

Indian Autos Blog had tested the Nissan Micra in Chennai thoroughly and we were quite impressed by the cheerful charcter of this small car. The Nissan Micra feels refreshing different from its rivals like the Maruti Swift, Ford Figo and the Chevrolet Beat.

We will soon be posting on how the Micra feels to drive. Stay tuned for that!

Nissan Micra dashboard

The interiors of the Nissan Micra carries over the exterior styling traits. The Micra’s cabin isn’t radically different nor is it sporty looking, what really stands out in the Micra is the simplicity. There isn’t an element which would invite people to criticize the car.

The Micra’s cabin is extremely roomy and the generous glass area gives the car a bright and airy feel. Everything has been put together well, the instrument panels, center console, aircon controls and the stereo system are all conventionally placed and there is nothing to complain about the dash layout. The twin glove box, three cupholders and decently sized map pockets (which can also hold a small water bottle) on the doors help stowing away things neatly.

The dashboard on the top end XV comes in a colour which Nissan calls the ‘Greige’ (mix of grey and beige). This colour does not exactly make the car’s interiors look totally upmarket, but it does a good job of livening up the interiors to some extent. The XE and XL variants get pitch black interiors and I actually loved the black interiors more than the ’Greige’ interiors.

The quality of plastics used is very good and there isn’t a spot which looks cheap (except for the key slot on the XE and XL) and the material used on the seats. The AC vents are all finished well and are easy to adjust while the switchgear is top class. The way the indicator stalk feels when you use the indicators is exceptional. The steering feel is extremely nice and soft to hold and wish it could have been a bit chunkier.

Nissan Micra brick red

The styling of the last generation Nissan Micra can best be described as ‘girly’. There is no offense in a car looking feminist, but when a manufacturer is aiming to sell the car in 160 markets worldwide, it can’t offer a car that only the fairer sex would like to be seen in one. That is the main reason why Nissan has made the fourth generation Micra’s styling appeal to both the sexes.

At first glance, the front of the car is bold. Not the sharp, edgy kind of bold, but a unique, subtle, soft refreshing kind of bold.

The soft curves on the front give a very pleasing look to the Micra. The narrow ‘grille’ of the car somewhat gives it its cheerful character. Only the top end variant XV gets a horizontal chrome lining cutting across the grille. The Nissan badge sits proudly above the grille.

The side profile of the new Micra looks very similar to the old gen Micra except for the rear end of the roof, which doesn’t slope down but extends a bit and rises gently and then falls, which results in an integrated rear spoiler. The 14 inch wheels fill the wheel wells sufficiently and there wouldn’t be a necessity to beef up the tyres to make the car look better.

The roof of the car features a unique boomerang styled ridge which is more of a technical addition than a cosmetic feature. This boomerang shaped ridge increases the stiffness of the roof and this makes the Micra’s roof lighter and stiffer.
