Exide, a very reputed and India’s largest lead acid storage battery manufacturer, has claimed that they would provide battery solutions for the upcoming small car. Reports suggest that the Kolkata-based company will begin commercial supply of batteries for the world’s cheapest car at the Indian automaker’s Pantnagar facility in Uttarakhand, where the first batch of Nanos will roll out from.
Autocar UK has published a post giving more information on Fiat’s low cost brand for developing countries like ours.
The website says the low cost car will come with a “super frugal 2-cylinder engine” but nothing about the displacement or power is mentioned. Now, could this possibly be the same engine that is used on the Tata Nano ? We earlier heard that there could be a possible hand in this venture from Tata Motors.
Italian car maker Fiat is planning to launch a new low cost brand in Europe and bring to the market, three models under a new low-cost brand tag.
Pricing would be lower than current Fiat models, which have moved marginally upscale. An example: Fiat 500 was once (in the 60′s) the brand’s cheap city car, but the latest generation is more of a lifestyle vehicle. Fiat would make something similar to the 500, but would cost a lot lesser.
First Automobile Works Ltd, a Chinese company, is ready to invest in West Bengal along with an Indo-Russian Joint Venture, Ural India Ltd. Ural India is a joint venture between Uralaz of Russia and Kolkata based Mitijug group. They plan to launch heavy duty and high performance trucks. Tata recently said that the Nano would be launched on Ratan Tata’s birthday December 28. But Tata is now struggling to start Nano’s production at its Pantnagar plant in Uttarakhand (48,000 units capacity).
