Mahindra has just unveiled the facelift of the Xylo at its Kandivali manufacturing plant in Maharashtra and announced prices for the same. There are a total of 5 variants -
D2 and D4 for commercial segment
E4 and E8 for family
E9 positioned as the luxury variant
Mahindra Xylo facelift variant and price (in lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi)
The passionate folks at Cousins On Cars have photographed the basic version of the Xylo facelift with black bumpers and plain looks. The side profile is the same, the tail lights have subtle revisions (note the clear lens portion) and all variants get a new steering wheel.
Mahindra sells two versions of the Xylo, one for the personal segment and another for the commercial segment. The facelift has improved the car’s looks as it has cleared the clutter. The front-end looks orderly and some guidance has come from the commercial vehicle twin, Genio.
The launch of the new series is conducted tomorrow in Mumbai and as usual IAB, from ground zero, will bring you the prices and changes.
After showing you spyshots of the refreshed Xylo testing near Pune and presenting Shoeb’s speculative rendering, today we bring you images of the Xylo facelift completely uncamouflaged, thanks to user Dieseling from Team-BHP.com.
The front-end has gone through a sea of change and feels like some of the XUV500′s design language has rubbed off on the Xylo’s design team.
The transformation starts at the hood – redesigned using creases relocating to the sides. The bulge along the bonnet’s center has been flattened out. Subtle lines flow towards the center from either corners of the windshield.
The Xylo’s shiny grille takes a more traditional approach sitting on the same level as the headlamps. It replaces the body-colored grille design that forms the shape of an arch. A slim louvre separates the grille and bumper.
After the XUV500 resulted in a tornado of sorts, Mahindra will be keen to script a similar tale on the launches in 2012. The first of the many new models is the Xylo facelift that can be re-presented to sedan buyers just after its third birthday.
Mahindra’s busy testing the refreshed model in many parts of Maharashtra. An image clicked by our friends at TAI showed a clear lens segment on the tail light and plastic wheel arches leading to the side step. Up front, heavy revisions are expected but the camouflaged mules don’t help one bit in uncovering the changes.
Hence we rang in Shoeb R Kalania and asked him to play around with the Xylo’s front fascia. Here’s what Shoeb left us along with an image -
Expected changes:
Mahindra Xylo facelift exterior
1. New three-dimensional grill
2. Revised Front bumper
3. Different bonnet lines
4. Tweaked headlamps
5. Tail lamps with sections of transparent housing
6. New rear Spoiler
7. Blacked out B and C Pillars.
8. Rear bumper might see the inclusion of new reflectors.
Mahindra Xylo facelift upgrades
1. A new top-end variant, E9, with features borrowed from the XUV500 could be launched.
2. 4X4/mHawk, AT and more special editions in the pipeline
3. Petrol engines from Ssangyong calibrated for export model.
Mahindra is silently working on upgrading the Xylo for an early 2012 launch. We have presented a picture of the car’s rear and suggested changes to make the Xylo a better long-distance vehicle. From the platform perspective, Mahindra is not missing even one opportunity.
It has three versions of the Genio (two for domestic market with cost-down body, and an export variant), two engine options and a handful of variants on the passenger model, and a mini Xylo in the pipeline.
If you thought all possibilities were exhausted, check this out – A 4WD Xylo powered by the mHawk engine (2.2-liter familiar to Scorpio fans) spied in Pune. Is Mahindra testing the vehicle for a 2012 launch? Or is this like the deluxe edition of the Xylo pickup exclusive to foreign markets? We don’t know yet but we’ll pose these questions to Mahindra at the Auto Expo next week.
Our friends at TheAutoMotiveIndia are back in action snagging an undisguised mule of the Mahindra Xylo refresh.
The sole shot of the rear exposes new clear lens tail lights. Blacked out pillars and plastic trim traveling along the wheel arch into the step plate are new additions. Mahindra is likely to reskin parts of the front and slip in features like steering-mounted controls. The new model could be shown either at Auto Expo next month, coinciding with the Xylo’s third anniversary, or in the months to follow.
