Hyundai’s Santa Fe touches 2 million sales mark

Hyundai_Santa_Fe_white2 million and still accelerating – India bound Santa Fe’s a global leader

Hyundai Motor Company’s mid-size SUV model Santa Fe, has reached cumulative sales of two million units worldwide.

The sub-20 lakh SUV from Hyundai will be launched in India during the course of next year. Auto expo appearance? a high likelihood.

Two million unit sales across the globe is a big achievement, but a quarter of that number comes from the Korean market alone. The Santa Fe is a global leader in its segment. It will come to India as CBUs, and assembling here will help avoid high duties.

Here’s an interesting fact from Hyundai – If the delivered cars are lined up bumper to bumper, the length is equal to eleven trips between Seoul and Busan. If the cars are piled up, your head could bump into one of the orbiting satellites – 390 times the height of the Everest mountain.

What creative minds Hyundai’s got. Even if they could have used a fraction of all this intelligence, we would not be exposed to the ugliness on the new Verna. Where were they that time?

Since its launch in June 2000, it has received so many awards and accolades including the Top Safety Pick from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (2008) and Strategic Vision’s Total Quality Award (2008).

Hyundai India to assemble Santa Fe CKDs; i40 sooner or later; surprise car in Auto Expo

Hyundai H800Will the surprise car at the Auto Expo be the small car prototype?

After the launch of the i20 diesel and automatic, Hyundai has not been much in the news. At least not for the right reasons as labor and the lack of free trade agreement between India and European countries forced Hyundai to shift a major chunk of the i20 production to Turkey.

Now, the company has revealed exciting details. We’ll give them numbers for easier assimilation.

1) Hyundai i40 -

Hyundai claims the i40/new Sonata YF will arrive in India “Sooner or later” but no date has been decided. We expect the Sonata YF to be brought in a CBU and compete with the likes of the Camry, Accord, Superb and Teana.

2) Hyundai’s surprise car -

Hyundai India says it will display “a surprising product” at next year’s Auto Expo in Delhi. We suspect this will be a prototype of their small car scheduled for 2011. This will be a repetition of what happened in the 2008 edition of the Expo with the Suzuki A-Star concept followed by production later in the year. This time at least we expect the concept to stick closer to the prototype version.

Hyundai adds LPG option to Santa Fe in Korea

hyundai-santa-fe-LPG

Hyundai has recently added liquefied petroleum gas-powered model to the Santa Fe SUV lineup in Korea. For our readers, it may look a little strange as we don’t have a single SUV here operating on LPG. LPG options are offered only on smaller vehicles and their numbers are also limited.

The SUV is equipped with a 2.7-liter LPG engine that puts out 162 brake horsepower and coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Hyundai claims the vehicle’s fuel economy is 7.9 kilometers per liter, which according to them is the most economical SUV in that category.

The more economical LPG Santa Fe also costs more than the regular Santa Fe. In India, according to HMIL, the Santa Fe will arrive next year.
