Ford India today announced the prices for Ford Figo variants. The base version for the Petrol is available at Rs. 3.49 lakhs while the Diesel starts at Rs. 4.47 lakhs. Figo, the first small car offering from Ford India, is specifically designed for the Indian market and is expected to be a game changer for the company. The variants and prices (ex-showroom Delhi) below -
The Ford Figo will be launched tomorrow in Delhi and the prices will be announced then. For those who can’t wait for that event, why not take a look at the presentation video which gives you all details possible of your next car?
Ford India has opened 28 new dealership across India. With these additions, Ford currently has 164 dealer across 97 cities in India.
Clearly the focus is on growth. They may have got the right product in the Figo and with competitive pricing, this is the next growth engine after the Fiesta and Ikon.
Ford Figos manufactured in India, would reach South African shores this year
Ford halted sales of the “Ka” in South Africa 18 months ago and since then the entry-level passenger car segment hasn’t seen a contestant from them. In the third quarter of this year, that sentence will not make sense as Ford is preparing to take on the budget car market segment once again with the introduction of the Indian-made Figo.
Ford sells the Bantam in SA which is the pickup truck based on the Ikon. The Indian connection hence is already present.
Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) president and CEO Jeffery Nemeth -
Having a new entry in the segment that is expected to recover the fastest will definitely provide us with some advantages.
The Figo uses the B-Platform and is manufactured with a localization content of 85% in Ford’s Chennai facility which can produce up to 200,000 cars a year. Both petrol and diesel variants could be marked for exports, but no official word from Ford has reached us.
Ford Figo rolls out of the Chennai plant. Deputy Chief Minister MK Stalin looks on
For those who are eagerly awaiting the launch of the Ford Figo, here’s good news. Ford rolled out the first Figo from its Chennai plant today. It was a blue color car and by the look on it, without the fog lamps, it is the base model.
Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi inaugurated the production of Figo. Ford had signed a MoU with the Tamil Nadu government in September 2009, under which it would invest an additional Rs 1,500 crore to expand the facility. The expansion would lead to creation of 1,000 job opportunities.
While prices or variants have not been revealed, we expect prices to begin at 3.75 lakh rupees for the base petrol and go up to 5.5 lakh for the diesel with all the bells and whistles.
The Ford Figo will not be launched this week as per earlier reports
After reports of Ford’s newest offering Figo could hit showrooms this week surfaced, we got in touch with Ford to clear the cobwebs. A spokesperson from Ford India told IAB that the launch is “more than two weeks away.”
The Figo will be launched in both petrol and diesel variants. It will come with a 1.2-liter Duratec petrol and a 1.4-liter Duratorq diesel engine.
Ford’s soon to be launched Figo has specks of the Kinetic Design used on modern day Fords. The video above gives you an idea of the interiors and how gracefully the car moves on the road.
The Ford Figo could be priced to take out the Suzuki Swift
Goa On Wheels is reporting Ford will launch the new Figo in the 1st week of February in India. Ford’s latest offering is good to drive and has huge volume of boot space. The Figo is powered by either a 1.2-liter Duratec engine or 1.4-liter Duratorq engine that is used on the Fiesta.
The Figo relies on an older platform and shares common parts with other Fords in the Indian lineup. What this means to the customer is competitive pricing and better reliability.
We’ll bring you the second part of the test drive in the next two days where we’ll discuss the ride quality, engine, gearbox and handling. Stay tuned.
The Figo’s dashboard is painted in a brown which looks different in daylight
Yesterday morning I got down to driving both variants (petrol, diesel) of the Ford Figo, seeing its interiors for the first time in action and in daylight. Ford engineers have worked hard to get the best possible materials for this price. No, you don’t get soft touch plastics or leather. The quality of whatever used is good.
The ingress and egress is not the strongest point of Figo. For a tall person like me, I had to bend and crouch to get in. Once I position my seat to my convenience, I make the ingress easier from the second time.
Sit in the car and you feel absolutely in control. The steering wheel is thick and inspires confidence straight away. The front seats is are firm and the bolsters lock you into position. The head rests are designed considering tall drivers and you don’t get anything but comfort and control from the driver’s seat.
Figo comes in 1.2 petrol and 1.4 diesel. It has large boot space and comfortable driver seat
Ford India organized a separate screening and presentation of the new Ford Figo to the electronic media today. This is certainly, to the best of our knowledge, the first time such an initiative is taken by an Auto company in India and we’re grateful to the entire Ford team for providing with such a fantastic experience.
I’ll be shooting pictures and evaluating the driving characteristics of the Figo during the drive tomorrow.
Today, the story of how the Ford Figo was born, and how an old European Fiesta was turned into a budget family mobile for ‘Sandeep,’ a newly wed Indian male with aspirations, energy and confidence, was discussed in depth. More on the story later.
I spent a brief amount of time experiencing the static car, and it looks very impressive. The ingress/egress could have been better. The quality of the buttons and switches in certain points could have felt better. But overall, Ford’s got the material/color/feel formula almost spot on.
I’ll drive the car, and with some quality pics I’ll come back to you tomorrow.
Click past the break to view the images Ford released. This includes shots of the interior and components, which will give you a better idea of the car.
Scott Strong, Design Director for Ford Asia Pacific and Africa, introduces the exterior design of the new Ford Figo.
I just saw a pack of Ford Figos in Chennai city traffic with “On Test” written on their rear windshields. They have good road presence, the long wheelbase and lesser ground clearance go well with the glass area of the car. The headlamps especially, are very unique and lend it a rich appearance. I think black and dark grey are the most attractive colors on this car.
It will be Ford’s game changer, the first car to put them in the heart of the Indian car buying market. It will also be a chance for Ford to offer a world class product at that price band.
On the name -
Figo in Italian means fun. I feel it comes from the famous “GoFida” tagline given to the Fiesta.
On the price -
No one commented on the price. They said it would be priced competitively. After speaking to the other journalists at the event, I expect the entry level variant at around 3.50 lakh rupees.
On the variants -
They did not say a word. They blacked out the windows and windshields of the display vehicles and it was tough to get a good look at the interiors to know the equipment.
On the countries it will go to -
It will travel to a host of markets around the world. Although the top brass did not share information regarding this, I suspect Europe, Australia and Latin America are on the list.
On the engine options -
A 1.2-liter petrol and 1.5-liter diesel engines are expected. Nigel E Wark, Executive Director of Marketing, Sales and Service of Ford India said more engine options will be announced in the future.
On the future of this model -
This will be Ford’s Global B platform that will give rise to a series of vehicles. Nothing specific was discussed but common sense dictates there will be a sedan, MPV and commercial vehicles for local and international customers.
