Indian Autos Blog’s regular reader Ramki spotted the Ford Endeavour SUV testing with the Everest badge near the Ford manufacturing facility in Chennai. We can assure you that Ford India is not mulling over a change of branding for the Endeavour.

Ford Everest testing in Chennai

Ford may not be allowed to use the Everest in the Indian market as the rights to the name belongs to another manufacturer in India (believed to be Maruti Suzuki). Likewise Ford India has registered “Splash.” This is the reason for Maruti Suzuki naming its hatchback Ritz.

2012 Ford Endeavour to be developed by Todd Hoevener?

2012 Ford Endeavour

By Kaustubh Shinde

There is a little bit of extra information that you need to know on the next generation Ford Endeavour. Whether you know it as the Ford Ranger in its pickup truck form, or Ford Everest in other markets, the platform has started its development process as a pickup truck under the codename ‘T6’.

The SUV that will a T6 platform spin-off is being developed under the guidance of Todd Hoevener, Ford’s SUV specialist and vehicle engineering manager, who’s been flown in from America. His recent work includes the latest model of the iconic Ford Explorer.

The design language will lay emphasis on aerodynamics which is a refreshing change from the old one. We expect Ford’s current 3.0-litre, 4-cylinder common-rail turbo diesel engine to be carried over. Otherwise, the 176kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ecoboost engine is expected.

Acknowledging the fact that Ford is currently inundated with a lot of Figo orders and its upcoming projects like the Euro Fiesta sedan and seven other models over the next few years are going to keep them very busy, we expect this SUV will take sometime to hit the market, probably the middle of 2012.

Stay tuned, we will bring you more information as it comes to hand.

Video – Ford Endeavour’s designer narrates

Paul Gibson, former chief designer Ford APA (Asia Pacific) breaks down the design of the new Ford Endeavour (‘Everest’ in select markets) which was launched in India last year. The Endeavour is based on the Ranger pickup truck, which will soon be replaced by a new stronger, and more capable load carrier.

Spied – Future Ford Endeavour’s cockpit

The 2011 Ford Ranger’s dashboard will have good fit, finish and car-like attributes

The Ford Ranger, a highly successful pickup truck in Australia shares vital components with the Endeavour SUV sold here in India. A quick google image search proves previous versions of the Ranger have huge influence on the Endeavour’s dashboard.

We feel it is safe to assume the next generation Ford Endeavour will have the similar dashboard layout as the future Ranger, which debuts next year and will sell internationally.

Codenamed the T6, the upcoming Ranger’s dashboard has a hint of Fiesta (European Fiesta) in it. The steering wheel is straight out of the Fiesta while items like LCD screen, steering mounted controls keep it close to that of a car. The T6 according to our friends in Car Advice will have interiors with fit and finish similar to a Ford car.

We have absolutely no information whatsoever on the future Endeavour. In India, Forf is looking at introducing a couple of new Endeavour variants and the current model will run for quite sometime.

Thanks to our regular reader Sundar, we are able to show you a Ford Endeavour test mule caught in Chennai city traffic. Visually the test mule had no differences to a showroom model except for the “On Test” badge pasted on the rear windshield.

When we started digging for a connection, we unearthed what we were looking for.

Michael Boneham, President and Managing Director, Ford India to Zigwheels at the Endy launch last year -

As far as offering a manual transmission on the 3.0 litre goes (3.0 comes only with automatic transmission), I can’t say anything right now. In the future we might introduce an automatic on the 2.5 litre TDCi (2.5 comes only with manual box) as well and a manual on the 3.0 litre. It depends on demand and right now we feel that there is a need for an automatic box.

Although Mr.Boneham doesn’t confirm any plans, he hints about a 3.0-liter manual and the 2.5-liter automatic transmission variants. What Sundar has caught here could well be one of the two.

IAB Review- Ford Endeavour In-car GPS

The Ford Endeavour is one of India’s leading SUVs. It’s lively handling, space, luxuriousness and splendid off-roading capabilities assist it achieving the uppermost spot among similar SUVs.
