Official – Fiat to launch Linea T-Jet on October 8

Fiat Linea t jetFiat Linea t jet

The Linea T jet almost found a home in Fiat India’s pipeline. It was shown at the Auto Expo earlier this year and the concept of a turbocharged petrol engine in an affordable car is music to the enthusiast’s ear.

But now, it’s ready to come out!

Fiat India’s spokesman to Indian Autos Blog -

Yes, Fiat will launch the Linea T-Jet in Mumbai on 8th October. Bookings will be taken in a phased manner. It begins in Mumbai and Pune, followed by Delhi, Chennai, etc. Production has begun as we have to send the cars to our dealers in time for its launch.

The Linea T-Jet will have a turbocharged 1.4-liter petrol engine producing 120-odd bhp (we’re guessing). It should also have features that aren’t found presently on the Linea like leather seats, rain-sensing wipers, bigger alloy wheels and so on.

We have already shown you a spyshot of the Linea T-Jet testing near Pune, in case you haven’t been following us closely.

Official – Fiat to launch Linea T-Jet next month in India

Fiat Linea Tjet

Since the launch of the 90hp Punto, Fiat has remained silent. It originally planned to launch the Linea T-Jet last month, but due to unknown reasons, it had postponed it to October.

Fiat India’s spokesperson -

We will launch the Linea T-Jet in India next month.

When asked about a specific week or date, he said nothing was decided as of now. Fiat could look at launching this in the middle of October, the T-Jet might come in a phased manner too.

Fiat will also run special finance schemes during the festive season. It has not planned any special editions or models, apart from the T-Jet for this year.

Fiat Linea T-Jet

Fiat India today disclosed information on the launch of the Linea T-Jet in India to Indian Autos Blog.

The Fiat Linea T-Jet has been caught testing near Pune and earlier at the Auto Expo this year, Fiat showcased it as part of their huge pile of exhibits.

Fiat’s corporate communications team this morning said -

Our next launch is the Fiat Linea T-Jet. We will launch the vehicle during the end of August or the beginning of September.

Fiat’s Linea T-Jet, according to our sources, has been tested thoroughly in India to suit our roads, fuel quality and traffic conditions. The vehicle will have the turbocharged 1.4-liter petrol engine that can be tuned to give either 120PS or 152PS.

We’re expecting Fiat to tune it to around 120hp as fuel economy is very much a concern for a 10 lakh rupee sedan buyer.

Fiat Linea gets upgrade internationally, will India get it too?

new fiat linea upgrade

Fiat has given the Linea a makeover in the Argentinian market. The new updated Fiat Linea sedan gets new optional features that include 17″ wheels, beige leather interiors and trim.

The Fiat Linea sedan has been doing well in India thanks to its graceful looks, excellent equipment levels and competitive pricing. The Linea is an excellent product and can’t really dethrone the segment leader Honda City because of a two important reasons, quality issues and underwhelming petrol engines.

Fiat would soon be launching the Linea T-Jet with a turbocharged 1.4 liter petrol engine pumping out hp and 206 Nm of torque. This engine is known for its raw power delivery and this incredibly powerful motor can propel the Linea from 0 to 100kmph in just 9.2 seconds.

Fiat could be launching the Linea T-Jet by August 2010 and could offer leather interiors and bigger wheels on the new version. Fiat could also be looking to launch the updated Linea with an automatic transmission.

With the Volkswagen Vento all set to be launched by October 2010, the Fiat Linea would be seriously in trouble if Fiat can’t prep it up soon enough. The Hyundai Verna Transform has been launched and the refreshed Hyundai does look promising and could get the cash registers ringing for Hyundai again.

Spied – Fiat Linea T-Jet?

Fiat Linea T-Jet spied rearfiat linea t-Jet rear

Spied while testing on the Pune – Shirdi highway by our reader Tarun Kumar Tripathy, this appears to be a normal Fiat Linea right until you pay close attention to its exhaust tip. Unlike normal Fiat Lineas, this temporary registered Fiat Linea, that seems like a test mule, possesses a chromed oval exhaust tip. While normal Lineas have no exhaust tip, their tailpipe also folds away downwards at the end. The spied Linea’ tailpipe is perfectly straight.

If one compares the exhaust tip of this Fiat Linea to the one of the Fiat Linea T-Jet showcased at the Auto Expo in Delhi, it shows that the exhaust tips of both the cars are exactly identical.

So, could this be the Linea T-Jet or was it a normal Fiat Linea with the exhaust tip of the Linea T-Jet? It is difficult to ascertain this because the badges of this Fiat Linea are not clearly visible at night, but our guess is that it is the Fiat Linea T-Jet which will be launched a month after the 90hp Punto.
