2011 Chevrolet Aveo finally goes into production

2011 Chevrolet AveoNews comes in from South Korea that the new Aveo, which was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, will be produced by GM’s Daewoo unit at their manufacturing plant in Incheon.

On the occasion, GM Daewoo President and CEO Mike Arcamone said -

GM Daewoo is proud to be the first member of the GM family to produce and sell GM’s next-generation global small car. With demand for small cars on the rise worldwide, this is great news not only for GM Daewoo and our suppliers, but for Korean consumers as well.

The new Aveo takes a lot of its design cues from the Beat (a.k.a the Chevy Spark) and the Chevy Cruze. It comes with 5 engine options:

* 1.2-liter Petrol with 70HP
* 1.2-liter Petrol with 86HP
* 1.4-liter Petrol with 100HP
* 1.6-liter Petrol with 115HP
* And a 1.3-liter turbo diesel engine with either 75HP or 90HP with a start stop technology

GM also has plans to unveil a four-door sedan version of the same Aveo at the LA motor show this November or in the Detroit motor show in early January 2011.

GM will also bring this Aveo (both sedan and hatchback) to India by early next year. Chances are that they will co-exist with the current models with added features and diesel powertrains.

2011 Chevrolet Aveo

Paris (Motor Show) 2010 is a once-in-a-lifetime show for Chevrolet with four world premieres. The Chevrolet stand is a preview of the all-new Chevrolet line-up customers will see at our showrooms in our centenary year, 2011.

Wayne Brannon, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Europe said in a press release issued recently. Three out of the four premieres (new Aveo, new Captiva and Orlando) are very relevant to the Indian market.

Video – Chevrolet Aveo hatchback preview

The Chevrolet Aveo production model will be shown at the Paris Motor Show this month. Prior to that, Chevrolet wants to ensure everyone has seen the vehicle digitally and hence this video featuring stills that were released a while back.

The new Aveos (sedan and hatchback) are going to be manufactured here in India and fitted with 1.2-liter petrol and 1.3-liter diesel engines.

What the video does is zooms into every aspect of the car so that you get a solid idea on what it’s about.

Leaked – 2011 Chevrolet Aveo twins

2011 Chevrolet Aveo sedan

Thanks to Carscoop, we’re able to bring you patent drawings of the 2011 Aveo twins heading to India next year. General Motors will bring the Aveo sedan to India in the first quarter of 2011. It might bring the Aveo hatchback by the end of next year or the beginning of 2012.

These new Aveos are important models for the Indian wing since it doesn’t have a diesel hatchback to challenge the might of the Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i20 or Indica Vista. General Motors will fit the internationally acclaimed 1.3-liter Fiat Multi-jet engines to these cars and that will place GM in a suitable position to grab vital market share. The current Aveos don’t have the important diesel option and that reflects in the poor sales numbers.

GM has said in the recent past that the current Aveos will not receive any upgrades this year. It does not have any plans to phase out the models either.

Internationally the Aveo twins will lock horns with the Ford Fiesta hatch and sedan. The hatchback model has been shown in the form of the Aveo RS concept at the North American Motor Show in January this year.

Since these models are based on the 300 Series platform, there will be many similarities between the smaller Spark (Beat) and Aveo. Many components will be shared, the hidden rear door handles is just one example.

The Aveo twins could debut at the Paris Motor Show.

There is no doubt that the Aveo twins will be the most striking and concept car-like designs in India. GM should market these models aggressively, run television commercials that strike a chord and are true to the product’ traits. Competition in the form of the next generation Swift, Etios twins and Honda’s small car is coming next year, and GM better work on getting a head start.

The new Aveo U-VA is an evolution of the current model and comes with a long wheelbase

The side shot of the next generation Chevrolet Aveo U-VA which will co-exist with the existing model when it hits the market next year with diesel engine, reveals the car’s extended wheelbase. The rear passengers aren’t going to complain, that’s for sure.

The next gen Aveo hatchback was previewed at last month’s Detroit Auto show as the Aveo RS concept. Regular reader’s of IAB would have got bored of this car as we have been featuring it right from last year using batches of spyshots. The interior spyshot of the the Aveo helped in understanding its connection with the recently launched Chevrolet Beat.

The yet to be named (if you’re in India) Aveo hatch will be launched with at least one diesel engine manufactured here in India. It belongs to the new breed of Chevys – the Beat and Cruze are its siblings.

More updates on this vehicle as soon as we learn about the displacement, power and other options.

A renowned model across the globe, but not a big hit in India, the Chevrolet Aveo is preparing for to attack us in a new avatar. Karl Slym, President and Managing Director of GM India, during the launch of the new Chevrolet Beat told IAB the next generation Chevrolet Aveo you see here, will coexist with the current Aveo in India. It will be the T-Series offering of the 300 platform (The M series was the Beat and the J Series was the Cruze).

The 2011 Chevrolet Aveo will be similar to the Aveo RS showcased at the NAIAS earlier this month. As Ed Welburn, Global design head of General Motors revealed to us during an interview new Chevrolets will have many common parts. The motorcycle inspired instrument cluster and some dashboard components closely resemble the ones on the Chevrolet Beat. The rear door handle will be hidden on the C-Pillar just like it was on the Beat.

The car spotted here is the automatic transmission variant. Not sure if that will make it to India.

The new Chevrolet Aveo hits Indian shores in 2011. Expect both petrol and diesel engines. We’ll not be surprised to see an e-Aveo.

The 2011 Chevrolet Aveo, spied by two different sources during the last week makes this the third encounter. Autoweek NL’ photographers caught the test mule during a routine cold weather test. Autoweek appears confused about the identity of this car, but we are clear. This is the next generation Chevrolet Aveo slated for release in 2010. The production car will be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year.

Auto Express identifies this car as the next generation Lacetti. We believe the next generation Lacetti is the Chevrolet Cruze.

This car you see here is in fact the next generation Aveo. Built on the Gamma 2 platform, it has the same DNA as the 2010 Chevrolet Spark.

Auto Express also mentions this car would be introduced in 2010.
