Skoda unveils 5 door Citigo hatchback

Five door skoda CitigoNow that Volkswagen has showcased the 5 door variant of the UP!, it was about time Skoda gave us a glimpse of their 5-door Citigo. Not that you should be surprised or anything because IAB viewers are already seen the renderings of the 5 door Citigo.

We liked the 3 door version of the Skoda Citigo and the 5 door version is no different.

As expected, nothing much has change apart from the two new doors. The Citigo five-door sits on the same 2,420mm wheelbase as the three-door. No changes have been made to the interior space or the rear storage space which stands at 251 litres. The POWER! comes from a the new 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine with 60 or 75 hp.

Skoda e-Citigo planned for a 2014 release

Motor Trend has reported that Skoda is working on the electric variant based on the Citigo for a 2014 launch in Europe. The Citigo is the Volkswagen Up’s identical twin and the specifications of the Volthead are already frozen!

The tiny tots are fired by an 18-kWh battery pack wired to a 80 hp electric motor. This lends a range of 81 miles with a top speed of 81mph. Volkswagen will introduce its version by 2013 followed by the Skoda model a year later.

The petrol engined Up! is on sale across Europe while the Citigo is available in its home market of Czech Republic. The petrol Citigo’s availability will extend to other European markets in 2013. It is powered by a 1L petrol engine producing 60 or 75hp.

Skoda India is not shy revealing some details on faux off-roader based on the Fabia, the Scout. It did not hesitate to put up a spec sheet alongside the display at its pavilion in the bygone Auto Expo. The Scout was seen testing in Pune by our pals at Motorbeam last year and we wonder if Skoda is considering to top-off the Fabia range in India with this model in 2012.

Volkswagen will not fold its hands and watch the Fabia Scout roll off the production line for long. It could prompt a Polo counterpart if the concept is well received. The bigger development is the 1.6-liter engine coming down to B-Segment models. Have the prayers of a VW Polo 1.6 TDI finally been answered?

The interior features tight-fitting sports seats, a three-spoke sports steering wheel and the shift lever sleeve. The front door sills sport running boards, and stainless steel pedals echo the styling of the Fabia RS model.
