Nissan adds new diesel engine to Murano in Europe

Could the Nissan Murano be assembled in India?

Has anyone wondered why Nissan hasn’t launched the Murano in India yet? Could it be possible that Nissan is looking at the CBU route for this stylish one-off SUV which has all the credentials to take on cars like the BMW X1 and Toyota Fortuner?

The new engine on the European Murano is a 2.5 dCi which benefits from a new direct injection system operates at 2,000 bar, up from 1,800 bar, a redesigned cylinder head with parallel port and a new variable nozzle turbo (VNT) with electric control replacing the hydraulic system.

The upgrades help generate 190 horsepower and 450Nm of peak torque. This four cylinder engine is offered only with a six-speed automatic transmission and 4×4 system.

Performance and economy statistics will come close to the car’s launch date in September.

Rendering – Nissan’s upcoming Note on V-Platform

2012 Nissan NoteThe MPV off the V-Platform will be Nissan Note replacement sometime in 2012

Speaking to a news channel from the Geneva Auto Show floor earlier this month, Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault and Nissan stated there is a high likelihood of the MPV variant from the Nissan V-Platform which underpins the Micra, rolling out of the company’s Chennai facility in the next few years.

Now Autoten has posted a scan of the MPV (possible Note replacement) rendering from a Japanese magazine. The report says the Nissan Note replacement will hit the market in the middle of 2012. Know internally as W02C, the dimensions are listed 4050mm * 1495mm * 1535mm. A 4 cylinder 1.5 liter engine is said to be on the engine choice list. Isn’t Nissan considering this engine for the diesel Micra as well?

Rendering – One more elegant India-bound Renault Clio representation

The next Renault Clio could also come in 3-door form. Expect fuel-efficient engines

We’ve shown you Clio renderings and Clio clay models in the past. The Renault Clio we’re referring to here is the one that’ll be manufactured in Renault-Nissan’s Oragadam facility in Chennai using Nissan’s V-Platform in the next few years.

At this point we can only talk about the car’s looks as no details on powertrains have surfaced. We can speculate the possibility of the same 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine from the Nissan Micra under the Clio’s bonnet. We can also speculate that it will be slightly smaller than the Micra.

Renault’s “small entry level car” is expected to bring volumes to the company. Renault will sell the Clio through its own distribution network. It will also price the car competitively. It will also come with dedicated doors for rear passengers.

Recall list grows- Suzuki, Nissan and Daihatsu

Suzuki Every – Air con problems could cause fire

Barely few days after IAB remarked that more recalls are expected (Read – Now Hyundai recall the Sonata in US and Korea), the industry appears to be proving us right.

If you look at the faults that we have seen over these recalls, a majority of them are to do with systems or designs that have become complex with technology advancement or generations.

This raises three questions -

A/ Are testing methods for new technologies and mechanical designs insufficient? Is it a case of car makers compromising on passenger safety in a race to introduce new technology and designs in the market?

B/ Are existing safety/ testing regulations inadequate? We know of the stringent crash tests (like Euro NCAP, incidentally this rewards cars that employ electronic stability control and speed control) but what about technologies like the air con and steering systems? Is it time to create a regulation on these designs?

C/ Can mechanical designs and technologies such as Airbags, ABS, ESP etc be standardized? Take F1 for example. The McLaren ECU is standardized for all teams. This helps F1 and FIA regulate all cars. In my opinion standardization is the way to the future. It reduces development and testing costs. All manufacturers can then compete on the actual competitive factors of automobiles (i.e Product design, engine performance and value proposition).Just a thought to car makers.

Nissan launches 370Z Coupe in India; 169 Images and Press Release

Nissan_370Z_India_launch‘The Nissan 370Z.’ That’s the best introduction.

We have attended car launches and umpteen number of media events that introduce automobiles in all kinds of ways. But the manner in which the Nissan 370Z was launched, speeding across the runway and settling down in an Aircraft hanger was the best thing we’ve ever seen.

Nissan launched its flagship model, the legendary 370Z at the Pawan Hans Flying Club at Mumbai at a very unique function. The driver during this special occasion was Narain Karthikeyan, India’s first and only F1 driver, who unveiled the 370Z from a running trailer and followed it up with a few drifts to show the media what the 370Z was really capable of.

Mr Kiminobu Tokuyama, MD and CEO Nissan India, during the occasion said that Nissan would be getting three more models from Japan for the Indian Market and also confirmed that the Micra Sedan would follow the Micra Hatch. Priced at 53.50 Lakh (Ex showroom Delhi) for the 6 speed M/T with Synchro Rev Match, and at Rs.54.50 lakh for the 7-speed Auto, the 370Z surely enjoys the price advantage over its rivals.

Nissan 370Z arrives in India on Jan 20

Nissan_370Z_Fairlady_ZThe Nissan 370Z will be a CBU. That necessarily doesn’t matter to the rich buyer!

Nissan is all set to launch the sporty 370Z in India on the 20th of January. The Nissan 370Z will be most expensive Nissan in India, and will retain that tag for a very long time to come.

We believe Nissan would not have numbers in their mind for the 370Z. The primary motive is brand building, and that the 370Z with its humongous engine and razor sharp looks will certainly do.

The 370Z uses a 3,696 cc V6 engine that outputs 336 PS@7000rpm and 365 N·m@5200. That’s more torque than many of the SUVs in India can manage.

Known as the Fairlady Z in the Japanese market, the 370Z filters power via a 7-speed automatic with paddle shifters or 6-speed manual transmission. Despite aluminum door panels, hood and hatch, the 370Z weighs well over 3000lbs, so forget the word fuel economy altogether.

IAB will be present at the unveiling ceremony to bring you all possible images and information of Nissan’s first sports car in India.

Nissan lends X-Trail FCV to Coca Cola in America

Nissan_X-Trail_FCV_Coca_ColaThe Nissan X-Trail FCV is operated by Coca Cola Bottling company as an event vehicle

In the US, the trend among manufacturers who are into experimenting with fuel cell vehicles is to provide hollywood celebrities with these highly advanced cars and gain publicity in doing so.

This Japanese manufacturer however has other plans. It has leased the Nissan X-Trail FCV (Fuel cell vehicle) to Coca Cola as an event vehicle.

The creative team in Nissan stickered the car and haven’t they done a great job to get the message out – The Nissan X-Trail has a Coca-Cola Zero bottle, a silhouette of a driver drinking Coke and the slogan “Zero Means Zero!”

How colorful!

Eric Nozier, Nissan North America vice president of corporate planning -

Sacramento already has the beginning of a hydrogen infrastructure in place, and Sacramento Coca-Cola has a track record of utilizing low-emissions cars, so the two companies share a green philosophy

While companies like Honda have sent out vehicles to powerful celebrities who already have other cars to drive, it is a wise move by Nissan to lend its vehicle to somebody who will put it to good use.

Nissan 370Z arrives in India in January 2010

Nissan 370z

The Nissan 370Z’s intentions in India were traced after it appeared on the list of Nissan cars for our country in the slides projected during the launch of the new X-Trail and Teana.

Now, a company official has spoken and confirmed the 370Z’s arrival in January next year (Auto Expo?)

Hover Automotive India (marketing partner of Nissan, India), vice-chairman, G M Singh -

Nissan will launch its sports car 370Z in the Indian market and is expected to be rolled out in January 2010

The arrival of the 330hp Nissan 370Z isn’t going to send Mahindra or Tata back to their drawing boards as prices are expected to surpass even the existing products in the Nissan lineup. The company agrees the market for such an expensive sports car isn’t flourishing, but on the long run, it’ll help make an extra buck or two.

Nissan Leaf EV in India by 2011-12

Nissan-LEAF-India-1

Mr Kiminobu Tokuyama, CEO Nissan India, has said the company’s first mass-production EV will be sold in India in 2010-12.

Tokuyama claimed he had already requested the company’s HQ in Japan to conduct feasibility studies for instituting the recently unveiled EV in India. At the time of issuing this statement, he sounded confident of the Indian government’s support to such environmentally conscious products.

The Leaf is capable of traveling 160km on a single charge. When it comes to India, the import duties will inflate its cost by twice as much. Tokuyama also stressed on manufacturers working together and approaching the government for installing the necessary infrastructure across the country as most of them had EVs in their engineering centres.

The Nissan Leaf will go on sale by the end of next year globally.
