Maybach facelift images leak on to internet

The new Maybach would be revealed next month. This could be the final facelift.

Remember the Maybach? It’s what Rolls Royce is to BMW. Maybach belongs to Daimler AG and there has not been much news about them recently. RR has sold the entire consignment of its latest model Ghost for India and when we asked Peter Kronschnabl, CEO BMW India his reactions, he stated it was due to the constant hard work and how beautifully the brand was revived.

Maybach on the other hand sells less than one-third of what RR manages worldwide. Both their cars are engineered on the S-Class giving rise to doubts of the next generation S-Class moving upmarket with truck loads of technology and avant-garde styling. The new S-Classes in the process would replace the Maybach models.

Before that happens, Maybach will look to put its torrid past behind with the introduction of mildly facelifted 57 and long wheelbase 62 next month. The slightly tweaked grille, new headlights and a more aggressive lower air intake area don’t lend it a fresh lease of life, but it keeps it away from looking boring.

Quote of the Day

It is not correct to assume that. We have been getting our latest models to India and these are comparabale to the best. The example is the launch of the new E-Class, the S 500L Limousine and the GL 350CDI off-roader

- Dr Wilfried Aulbur, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India when someone said Mercedes sells cars with dated looks in India compared to Audi, BMW.

Mercedes Benz finds 5 buyers for SLS AMG -

Mercedes Benz India Limited has found its fifth buyer in India, reports Times of India. The 2 crore rupee Mercedes Benz was showcased at the Auto Expo last month with gullwing doors, an AMG 6.3-litre V8 front-mid-engine developing 420 kW (571 hp) peak output, 650 Nm of torque.

Mahindra plans 2 Maxximo variants

Mahindra plans to launch two new variants of the Maxximo – a passenger carrier (taking on the Tata Ace Magic) and a CNG edition of the pickup truck in the coming months. The Maxximo is powered via 2-cylinder CRDI engine, which this segment has not seen so far. The wrap around headlamps with reflectors, dead pedal, larger cabin, drive by wire throttle and 850kg payload capacity makes the Maxximo a superior vehicle on paper compared to the market leader Tata Ace.

Mercedes Benz finds Indian buyer for Rs.2 crore SLS AMG

Dr.Wilfried Aulbur poses with the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Desert Gold at Auto Expo

India might be a developing country, but its developing pretty rapidly both in terms of knowledge of supercars and wealth. Here’s proof -

Mercedes Benz has said it found a buyer in Rajasthan for the 2-crore rupee SLS AMG model which it showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this month. The SLS, which comes only as a left-hand-drive model, will soon be manufactured so that people driving on the wrong side of the road can also buy one.

The SLS was developed by AMG, Mercedes Benz’ performance division as a spiritual successor to the 300SL. When I asked Dr.Wilfried Aulbur (Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India) during the launch of the new Mercedes E-Class if he’s contemplating on bringing it here back in September last year, he said “let’s see.”

It was a random thought. I didn’t have anything else to ask him. I read that day in one of the websites that Ferrari and Maserati are planning an assault in India. I thought the SLS could be a possible alternative.

The launch was in typical Merc fashion, very subtle, classy and professional but the Launch of beauties Merc S 350 L and Merc 350 CDIL Blue Efficiency made the hall livelier.

The next generation M-Class is expected to be more fuel efficient

The next generation Mercedes Benz M-Class debuts this year at the biannual Paris Motor Show which takes place in October. The current M-Class has not disturbed sales of its competitors in India and the new one promises to change its stance.

The new M-Class will share components with the R-Class and G-Class. It is also said to come with a diesel-electric powertrain which should also sell in India given Mercedes’ concern for the environment. The regular models will also be fuel efficient and environment friendly. You can choose the 4-cylinder diesel, V6 diesel or the V6 petrol. If that isn’t enough, a V8 petrol engine will come with the AMG badge and dual turbochargers.

Average age of Mercedes Benz owner in India is 35-40 years

Mercedes_Benz_E-Class_newStylish cars like the new E and C have found younger buyers in India

The title might now seem very appealing, but think over this fact – a few years ago, the average age of a Mercedes Benz owner in India was 50.

The introduction of the new C-Class last year and the new E-Class a a couple months ago have assisted Mercedes in achieving stronger volumes and reach out to a significantly lower age group of customers.

Suhas Kadlaskar, director, corporate affairs and HR, Mercedes-Benz India -

The average age of our customers has come down to 35-40 level from the earlier age of 50. An increasing number of young entrepreneurs and professionals from various fields are buying luxury cars and this affluent segment has been boosting our sales volumes

Spied – Refreshed Mercedes C-Class

new_Mercedes_Benz_C-ClassThe new Mercedes C-Class would not have any major alterations

Mercedes-Benz will not fiddle around with the C-Class much for its mid-life facelift, instead the focus will be only on tweaking it slightly. The new C-Class will come with new bumper, headlight and wheel designs.

What we cannot see from these spyshots is the interior of the car. Most certainly, Mercedes Benz will make minor changes to the seats, materials and dashboard. Mechanical changes will revolve around making the vehicle more fuel efficient and less polluting.

We can expect to see new BluTec diesel powertrains and engine stop-start systems, as well as more direct-injected models joining or replacing part of the existing range.

Can we expect the new C-Class at the Auto Expo in January next year? We don’t have the answer.

Exclusive report: New Mercedes Benz E-Class in India + 144 Images

New Mercedes Benz E350 - 98

The underdog of its pack just got a little meaner. Will it be enough to overtake the others to become the king of its race?

The new Mercedes Benz E-Class has attracted constant attention from us since the pre-launch stages. We’re referring to the international launch that happened earlier in the year.

Briefing the media on Mercedes Benz’ health in India, Dr.Wilfried Albur Managing Director and CEO MBIL said his company would gain momentum with this new E-Class and recapture the lost ground from Audi and BMW. At present, MB holds 36% of this market’s share.

He added the C-Class and S-Class were numero uno in their respective segments and the facelifted models of those cars will be launched after their international debuts which will make it a ’strong’ 2010.

On the sales slump of the M-Class, Dr.Albur said the he was seeing the global trend of customers moving from SUVs to smaller cars, which India is also a part of. Such an economic state had left the M-Class in this position, he said.

Debashis Mitra, Director Sales and Marketing told me the company deliberately chose to offer the top-end E350 Avantgarde model (46.98 lakh ex-showroom Delhi) with a 3.5-liter V6 engine as the debut car in the new E lineup. He said the others worked the other way around and with a smile he said “Our customers deserve the best.”

Mr.Mitra also said Mercedes Benz considered the possibility of the A-Class in India but their study showed no positive signs and the volumes won’t justify. He said the demand is not quite enough for both the A and B-Class to arrive in India yet.

When quizzed about the SLS AMG’s prospects here in India considering the rising level of demand, Dr Albur asked me when I would want to buy it.

:D

He went on to say the SLS showed at Frankfurt represents what a modern Mercedes as a company is. He did not speculate on launch dates but did not rule out the possibility.

Mercedes Benz will launch diesels and cheaper variants with smaller engines shortly. The time frame was not divulged but our sources indicate the flow will begin in two month’s time.

Spied – New Mercedes Benz E350 in Mumbai-Pune Expressway

Spied – New Mercedes Benz E350 in Mumbai-Pune Expressway

One of our close followers who lives in Pune, claims he spotted a densely camouflaged 2010 Mercedes Benz E350 (pictured) in the Mumbai-Pune expressway hours back.

Koushal Ghokle explains he spotted the densely camouflaged 2009 Mercedes Benz E-Class with an E350 badge. He also says that the car was fully camouflaged with white sheets all over the body except for the grille and rear boot lid area.

Its significant connection to the S-Class, is more evident when seen in flesh, explains our spotter. He adds the interiors were nothing special and compared to the images of the Euro-spec E-Class, it is considerably toned down and in beige, looked similar to the C-Class from the outside.
