Sparkling Chevrolet Beat

No! This is not another case of a small hatchback catching fire! This is just a ‘fiery’ paint job on the Chevrolet Beat created by a Portuguese school kid, Jose Rocha, a participant in the 2010 Young Creative Chevrolet (YCC) Contest. This contest was organized to recognize young talents in school.

Participants had to redesign the exterior of Chevrolet Beat in the best way possible to exhibit the cheeky, sporty nature of the Chevrolet Beat. This ‘Sparkling’ Beat was chosen by the jury as the best representation of the Chevrolet Beat.

To honor the young boy, Chevrolet would release its World Tour Car Championship (WTCC) version of the Beat in this paint job. The WTCC Beat/Spark comes with a 1.4 liter turbocharged engine that produces a mammoth 140 bhp.

Would GM India at least bring limited editions of this ‘Sparkling’ Chevrolet Beat like it did with the Denim Chevrolet Levi’s Beat?

Spied – Tata Nano Convertible?

Tata Nano convertible

Tata Motors has two roofless versions of the Tata Nano doing rounds inside Tata’s Sanand factory. The two Nano’s with their roofs chopped are used to ferry visitors at the Sanand plant.

The ‘yellow’ and ‘silver’ roofless Nanos have side stickering and sidesteps (we wonder why), which don’t really make a difference. The hub caps on the cars looks good too. The seats sport rich pitch black covers.

The Tata Nano’s roof, B- and C-pillars have been chopped off completely; as the Nano is a mix between a body-on-frame and Monocoque design, the removal of the roof would affect the rigidity of the frame greatly, as long as the base frame is untouched.

Would Tata Nano launch the world’s cheapest convertible? Highly unlikely. We think the Nano convertible’s chances in India are slim, even if its prospects are exciting (would be easy to get out in case of a fire! ).

This roofless Nano you see here will join the family of roofless Indigos and Wingers used to ferry guests around Tata’s plants.

fiat mio FCC 3 concept car

Fiat has released renderings of it new concept car, the Fiat Mio FCC III that is to be showcased at the Salão do Automóvel Auto Show in São Paulo, Brazil in October 2010. There are two potential designs for the final concept car, ‘Precision’ and ‘Sense’, both based on ideas and suggestions submitted to Fiat by customers/fans through the Mio FCC III microsite.

The Fiat Mio FCC III is expected to feature a zero-emission drivetrain and focus on a new array of connectivity options including modes to communicate with other cars. The final shape of the concept car, either a boxy shape or a fluid shape is yet to be decided.

Why this news finds its way to the pages of Indian Autos Blog is because this concept car has immense potential to be developed into a small car for the Brazilian market and naturally the whats good for Brazil is good for India too.

This concept car could be crucial as Fiat has the option of adopting design cues for its new small car for India from the Fiat Mio FCC III. If not this time, the future Grande Punto could benefit from this design study.

Video – Chevrolet Beat Ad in Europe

Due to the absence of drive through food outlets in our city, we couldn’t try this out while the Chevrolet Beat was in our garage a few weeks ago. Chevrolet Beat owners – do you get into such mischievous moods behind the wheel of your car? Or is it only the ‘cocktail green’ color cars that influence?

Indian Designer’s smart mobility concept

ramesh gound indian designer

Indian Designer Ramesh Gound has come up with a smart design solution to escape horrendous traffic jams in big cities. His design concept consists of a two similar motorcycles which can be attached together to make a car. When there is traffic jam, the car can be split into two bikes again and the two commuters can slip through the traffic with ease on their bikes.

Ramesh Gound submitted this concept for his Diploma Project at the National Institute of Design and this project was funded by Renault Design India. Gound was fueled by the ‘buy one, get one free’ bargaining mentality in India.

It’s interesting to find designers drawing inspiration from the cultural influences of India and ending up with radical designs like this. The viability of such smart concepts for production is something only time can answer.

Michael Vaughan Chevrolet CruzeMicheal Vaughan tries flat-batting a colored cricket ball to paint a Chevrolet Cruze!

This isn’t some kinda April Fool’s joke.

Believe it or not, former English cricketer and captain of the historic 2005 Ashes campaign has nothing useful to do after he retired from international cricket. So he’s dug out his old bat, picked up a few cricket balls and paint and headed straight to a wall. He’ll then try creating the outline of the Chevrolet Cruze using his stroke play.

Michael Vaughan on his artwork -

Creating art with cricket balls is completely different, modern and new. It changes the rules of art because it’s instinctive and raw – covering a ball in paint and whacking or throwing it against canvas. A few of the other players initially took the mickey, but they are now “artballing” fans – and have had a go themselves

I have no idea what he just said.

Somebody give this man another job.

Press Release of this historic event attached after the jump!
