Our friend Sam over at Autoblog tells us that the next generation Aveo is not the Agile. He breathes a sigh of relief too!
Americans. You know
Sam says the next generation Aveo is meticulously engineered to resemble the next generation Spark. He makes this statement as he happened to look at the new car last week on a special occasion.
This takes us back to the first set of spyshots that surfaced from the Nurburgring in May – is that the next generation Aveo?

The first official image of the Chevrolet Agile looks stunning. No seriously, let us remind ourselves this no luxury sedan. It is merely a replacement for the low cost Aveo, and for that price, it looks slithery and well built.
When the Argentinian division of GM got in touch with us, they confirmed the first job was to ensure demands are met in the South American markets. They told us there were no immediate plans to bring it to Asia, but in the future, it could happen.
From the outside, the triple creased bonnet, sharp edged headlamps and puffed up wheel arches are so unlike a low cost car. The interiors however, leave a lot to be desired as the steering wheel and center console are low rent.
More information on the Agile is expected in the coming days. We’ll keep an eye out for any major developments.
Chevrolet Agile Sedan spied in China-

The Agile stemmed in Brazil and quietly is making in roads in Asia. The sedan version of the Agile (probably the Aveo U-VA in the future) once again was caught testing in Chinese streets. When it was spied the first time, we even went to the extent of making Chevrolet Agile sedan rendering.
While we don’t know if these are the U-VA and Aveo replacements, the low-cost platform nonetheless is being put to good use. This car will be sold as the next generation Chevrolet Sail in China.
Codenamed Sail NB NGS, NB stands for notchback and NGS for New Global Car, it is a cheaper version of the Aveo sedan.
Interesting, the Spark is stationed below the existing Aveo in India. Now that the next generation Spark is ready, we assume it will be priced around the Aveo’s range (4.5 lakh and upward).
If GM India brings the Agile in, where would they position it? I don’t think positioning it around the Jazz-i20 range would bring them any fortunes (at least not on the long run) since the Agile looks very plain and no-frills to me.
I have a gut feeling the Aveo and U-VA will be taken out and the Agile and Agile sedan will take up the task.
Chevrolet Agile official teasers -

Meanwhile in Argentina, General Motors has release two images of the Chevrolet Agile with full camouflage. Twenty models were used for several crash tests and over 150 prototypes clocked a million miles to determine reliability, the press release read.

The drama surrounding the Chevrolet Agile has died down, but is bound to resume soon after it is out on the market. The new car will be the Aveo replacement in the U.S and is likely to travel to BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) countries in the coming years to take up the same assignment.
The Agile is based on the company’s Delta platform. The car was developed in Brazil and test mules have been spotted in the past. The Agile will not stay as just a hatchback. Sedan and MPV variants are expected in the coming years.
GM has released official renderings of the new Chevrolet Agile for the first time. The Agile, remember is a subcompact hatchback that will be manufactured in Argentina for the whole of Latin America.
The Chevrolet Agile might also be souped-up to be ready to take on the new Ford Fiesta in the United States.
The Agile will be built in Argentina, but development has happened in Brazil for the past few years. The company shelled US $400 million on the Agile, which is why it will travel to China and India in the future, to give back maximum returns to GM.

The Chevrolet Agile small car was explained by Brazilian car expert Gustavo in an earlier post. Now, more information on the car has surfaced putting an end to many speculations. The new small car from GM was secretly developed by engineers for the past three years. Right from the start, it was intended to be a mass market car for emerging markets.
We appreciate our friend’s effort from South Africa, Shaun Malambo, who spent a considerable time in removing the camouflage from the Chevrolet Sail that was spotted testing in China. It was then passed on to our photoshop expert SRK who touched it up and this is the final result.
Is the Chevrolet Sail an Agile with a boot? Some claim so.
Codenamed Sail NB NGS, NB stands for notchback and NGS for New Global Car, it is a cheaper version of the Aveo sedan. No information is available on the new car for now, but we’ll keep a close watch on it.
Before GM filed for bankruptcy, the company was dealing with several projects all around the world. One of them was Project Viva, a small car that would, at first, be sold only in South America. This sort of move is becoming increasingly common.
Apparently, European cars are always too expensive to be sold as they are in emerging countries, hence the Fiat Palio, Volkswagen Gol, Chevrolet Celta and Vectra (in Brazil, also known in other countries as Astra Sedan), among others were developed specifically as low cost cars for emerging markets.
With the bankruptcy situation, GM has to seize all its resources and Project Viva may be sold not only in South America, but all over the world, including other emerging countries, such as India, and USA, where it will be built and is supposed to face the new Ford Fiesta.
