Audi eyes no.1 position by 2015 in India

Audi begins its mission numero uno with local assembly of Q5 this year

German luxury auto maker Audi is drawing up severe plans to pip BMW and Mercedes Benz to be number one by 2015. The company wants to see sales triple in India by then.

By 2015, we aim to become number 1 in India. We have told our team in India to work towards that aim. Our efforts, for brand building and developing dealerships for deeper market penetration, are geared towards that

Audi finished third last year in sales (1,685 units) behind BMW and Mercedes Benz. It plans to capture the flag by not only expanding its model range but also dealerships, from 12 at present to 18 by end of next year. It is looking to start operations in Jaipur, Ludhiana, Kolkata, Nagpur, Lucknow and Coimbatore

Seeing the level of demand for premium SUVs in the country, Audi will begin assembling the Q5 in the Aurangabad plant by the middle of this year. At present only A4 and A6 are being put together in the country

Audi RS5 to arrive in India by December 2010?

Our good friends in India Automotive are reporting the spine-tingling Audi RS5 could arrive at our doorsteps by the end of 2010.

The Audi RS5 would be priced around 49 lakh rupees when it goes on sale in Europe later this year. Thanks to the duties levied, it will cost more than a crore of rupees in India.

But what do you get for one crore rupees?

- A 4.2-litre FSI V8 engine capable of putting out 450 hp and still able to return an impressive fuel economy figure of 9.25kmpl. 0-60mph comes in 4.6 seconds and accelerates to a top speed of 280kph.

- A twin-clutch 7-speed S-tronic transmission (which can be operated in auto and manual modes) and Quattro all-wheel-drive.

- 19-inch alloy wheels (20-inch wheels are optional) 365mm steel brake discs at the front (380mm ceramic carbonfibre discs are optional), an electronic stabilization program (ESP) with integrated sport mode are just the first few points in the mile-long list of features.

India bound 2011 Audi A7 spied

The 2011 Audi A7 which debuts in India next year resembles the Audi Sportback concept from every angle.

Spied while on the move, the new A7 has bits and pieces resembling the current Audis and it comes at the cost of the concept car’s features.

The A7 is expected with a 3.0-liter V6 engine coupled to a 9-speed tiptronic transmission. Audi could position this car close to the A8. Prices are not going to be cheap. This is a CBU for us, so what can you expect?

Audi Q5 hybrid arrives by December 2010

Audi_Q5_India_launchWill Audi assemble Q5 hybrids in India this year?

Audi has confirmed that it will be launching the hybrid model of the Q5 SUV by the end of 2010. This announcement is of interest to us since Audi will be assembling the Q5 in India from March onwards.

Could Audi assemble the hybrid SUV in India? It definitely is a possibility.

The hybrid vehicle will probably be powered by the 3.2-litre V6 petrol engine, a pair of electric motors within the gearbox and a lithium-ion battery pack placed near the rear axle.

The price and specifications are expected in the coming months. Visually, the Q5 hybrid is expected to be no different.

Audi has confirmed that the A7, scheduled for release in late 2010, will be launched in India immediately after the international debut. As Autocar India rightly puts it, the A7 is more of style and statement than practicality, features or comfort.

Introduced in concept form at the 2009 North American International Auto Show, the A7 is expected with a 3.0-liter V6 engine coupled to a 9-speed tiptronic transmission. Many rumors circulating on the internet, the strongest of them all is that they are gunning for a Geneva 2010 premiere, which takes place in the first week of March.

The Audi A7 is meant for the rich bloke who prefers to drive. His mates own cars like the Mercedes CLS, Volkswagen CC and dress stylishly.

Our friends at India Automotive report Audi will display the 2011 Audi A8 at the Auto Expo in Delhi next year. Audi will introduce the A8 in India in 2011. Prices are expected to be around the one crore mark.

The new Audi A8 will come with powerful FSI petrol and TDI diesel engines, eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, adaptive air suspension, LED headlamps, Quattro all-wheel-drive and aluminium space frame construction. Audi’s new MMI touch-screen operating/navigation system will give you company inside with high-end Bang & Olufsen sound system with 19 speakers. Individual seats with massaging and ventilation will be optional.

new_Audi_A8_2011The upcoming Audi A8 luxury sedan uses an extended A4 platform

The new Audi A8 will be launched on November 30 in Miami in the Audi Pavilion, a temporary museum. This gives rise to speculations of a possible appearance during the Auto Expo in India next year.

The 2010 Audi A8 has sold a fraction of a 7 Series or a S-Class in India. Audi’s strong performers are the A6, Q7 and Q5. If Audi is to be taken seriously in the full-size car segment, the radically different A8 needs to land here.

The future A8 is believed to adopt similar engines but most units will probably undergo an upgrade to become more environmentally friendly. A 2.8-liter petrol V6 and a 4.2-liter V8 FSI will be available for the petrol lover, while a 6.0-liter V12 TDI is for the cetane seeker.

Overall, the car is stationed on an extended platform of A4 using lightweight materials to cut fuel consumption and improve engine performance. Aluminum and magnesium are two of the materials likely to be used generously on the future A8.

Spied here is the next generation Audi A6 (Code: C6) test mule in Iasi, Romania. Going by a leaked official report of Audi a while back, it’s rumored to be revealed Jan 2011.

The next-generation C7 A6 should employ an Aluminum Steel Space Frame, helping it shed significant amounts of weight, while enhancing the shell’s rigidity by nearly 50%. This will improve handling, braking, fuel efficiency and not to forget, 0-60 times!.

Audi to assemble Q5 in India next year

German luxury car maker Audi will start assembling its Q5 SUV in India by March 2010. The German company is expecting a big boost in sales as the vehicle’s price tag is expected to come down.

The company will use the Aurangabad facility where it assembles the A4 and A6 at present. A new line will be setup which would have an annual capacity of 500 Q5s per year.

Audi India Managing Director Benoit Tiers -

“We have already sold 1,128 units this year. If everything goes well, I hope and we have a good chance to sell 1,700-1,800 cars in 2009, which will be an increase of about 70 per cent.”
