The 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 made its global debut at the 2017 EICMA show in Milan, Italy. The new motorcycle is up to 11 kg lighter than the earlier generation. Other updates include adaptive cornering lighting; full-colour TFT instrument; up to six riding modes; all-LED lighting; back-lit switchgear; keyless ignition and Triumph Shift Assist (clutchless up and downshifting). The Ride-by-wire throttle offers up to 6 riding modes to suit diverse environments. This includes ‘Road’, 'Rain', 'Off-road', ‘Sport’, ‘Rider programmable’ and an all-new ‘Off-Road Pro’ riding mode ideal for experienced riders as the ABS and traction control are off.

The 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 draws power from a 1200 cc in-line three-cylinder DOHC engine with liquid cooling and fuel injection. It generates 141 PS at 9,350 rpm and 122 Nm at 7,600 rpm. The six-speed transmission comes with a torque-assist hydraulic clutch. The motorcycle rides on Triumph Semi-Active Suspension (TSAS) which is electronically controllable. The front end uses a WP 48 mm upside down fork, and the rear comes with a WP monoshock, both fully adjustable electronically. Twin 305 mm front discs and a rear 282 mm disc with cornering ABS and cornering traction control enhance the bike’s safety.

In the UK market, the 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 is available in multiple variants: XR, XRx, XRt, XRx Low, XCx and XCa. In the Indian space, the Tiger Explorer is available only in the off-road spec XCx variant. Likewise, expect the 2018 model to come in the XCx variant. However, Triumph is yet to officially reveal the variant information. When launched, it would mainly rival the Ducati Multistrada 1200 range.
