Lexus has announced the first-ever Lexus UX SUV today. The company’s new entry-level SUV will have its world premiere at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show in March. It is the production version of the Lexus UX Concept that was introduced at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
Without revealing any details, Lexus has released only one teaser of the SUV, showing its full-width LED tail light strip. Other exterior highlights should include a dramatic spindle grille, sharp headlamps with pointed inner-end, vertical air inlets and large wheels.
The Lexus UX reportedly rides on the same modular platform as the Toyota C-HR - TNGA. It is said to arrive in three models: UX 200, UX 250 and UX 250h. A turbocharged petrol engine is a given, either the 8NR-FTS 1.2-litre unit from the Toyota C-HR or the 8AR-FTS 2.0-litre unit from the Lexus NX. The UX 250h hybrid model could get the 1.8-litre 2ZR-FXE petrol engine shared by the Toyota Prius and the Toyota C-HR.
The Lexus UX will compete with the likes of Mercedes GLA and BMW X1. Its market launch will take place later this year. Lexus hasn’t confirmed its baby SUV for India yet.
