Skoda has released a video of a Skoda Karoq that was driven up to 5,350 metres above sea level in the Himalayas to support cyclists attempting to break a record on the route from Leh to Khardung La - one of the highest road passes in the world. The project was organised by WeLoveCycling.com.

The Skoda Karoq seen in the video has no relevance to the Indian market, as it is nothing more than a pace car in an international adventure event. Still, it is the Karoq's first appearance on our roads. It turns out, the Skoda Karoq spotted at a parking lot in October was this very pace car brought to the country for the adventure event.

The Skoda Karoq is based on the MQB platform and is the successor to the Skoda Yeti. The C-segment SUV is 4,382 mm long, 1,841 mm wide and 1,603 mm/1,607 mm tall. It has a 2,630 mm (AWD) /2,638 mm (FWD) wheelbase. There are five engine options to choose from, two petrol and three diesel.

85 kW (115 PS) 1.0-litre TSI and 110 kW (150 PS) 1.5-litre TSI are the petrol engine options. 85 kW (115 PS) 1.6-litre TDI, 110 kW (150 PS) 2.0-litre TDI and 140 kW (190 PS) 2.0-litre TDI are the diesel engine options. 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG are the transmission choices. An all-wheel drive system is optionally available in select configurations.

Skoda will launch the Skoda Karoq in India in the second half of 2018. The company will locally assemble the compact SUV at its Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra.
