The quarter-litre segment just got a new touring-friendly addition in the form of the Yamaha Fazer 25. Its nearest rival, the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200, may be a performance-oriented motorcycle, but with raised clip-ons, faired design and comfortable riding position, it is a decent tourer. Let’s see how the two bikes perform on paper.

The Fazer employs a 249cc single cylinder engine that generates 20.9 PS of power at 8,000 rpm and 20 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. The engine gets a 5-speed gearbox. The Pulsar RS 200 on the other hand, gets a 199.5cc single cylinder triple spark engine with liquid cooling. It gives out 24.5 PS of power at 9,750 rpm and 18.6 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm. The engine works in tandem with a 6-speed transmission.

Coming to cycle parts, the Fazer 25 uses a telescopic fork at the front and a monocross at the rear. The Pulsar RS 200 gets telescopic forks at the front and a rear Nitrox monoshock. The Fazer 25 gets a 282 mm front disc and a 220 mm rear unit. ABS is absent. Yamaha says they will provide ABS when the new safety norms kick in during 2019. The Pulsar RS 200’s brakes include a 300 mm front disc and a 230 mm rear disc. The bike comes with an optional single channel ABS.
The Pulsar RS 200 without ABS is INR 7,441 cheaper than the Fazer 25. The single channel ABS variant is INR 4,412 more expensive than the Fazer 25.
