Toyota has readied a new Toyota Yaris-based sedan for the Thai market. According to a report from Headlightmag, the company has named this model 'Toyota Yaris ATIV' and will launch it on on 15 August 2017.
The Toyota Yaris Ativ will feature a new front and rear design, with cues borrowed from the facelifted Toyota Corolla. With a body 4,425 mm long and 1,730 mm wide, the Toyota Yaris ATIV is 5 mm longer and 30 mm wider than the Toyota Vios. Still, the Yaris ATIV will slot below the Vios. There are no differences in the height (1,475 mm) or wheelbase (2,550 mm).
The Toyota Yaris ATIV will get the Eco Car status, benefitting from certain tax incentives. Toyota will offer it with a 1.2-litre petrol engine, as per the report. This engine is probably the 3NR-FE Dual VVT-i four-cylinder unit, which is tuned to deliver 86 PS and 108 Nm of torque in the Yaris. A CVT is standard with this engine in the hatchback. The Suzuki Ciaz and the Nissan Almera are the cars in its segment which already take advantage of the Eco Car program subsidies.
The Toyota Yaris ATIV will have seven airbags (2 front, 2 side, 1 driver-knee and 2 curtain) - a first for an Eco Car. Toyota will equip the Yaris Ativ with ABS with EBD & BA, VSC and TRC. A month or two after the Toyota Yaris ATIV, the 2017 Toyota Yaris (facelift) will follow.

In India, the Vios will reportedly premiere at the Auto Expo 2018 and go on sale in April 2018. The Vios would make a better Honda City and Hyundai Verna rival than the Yaris Ativ.
