New photos clearly reveal the rear of the VW Virtus (2018 VW Polo Sedan)

The VW Virtus (2018 VW Polo Sedan)'s pre-series production has commenced in Brazil. A fresh batch of spy photos has revealed its rear in more detail, courtesy Noticias Automotivas.

The VW Virtus will have a longer wheelbase than the 2017 VW Polo (2,564 mm) which should give more comfort to rear passengers.

The VW Virtus (2018 VW Polo Sedan)'s design a step up compared to the VW Polo Sedan (VW Vento). The back glass looks bigger and more rakish, giving the sedan a more cohesive style. The tail lamps look inspired by those of the Audi A4. At the bottom, designers have applied the bumper with a full-width chrome trim. The subtle spoiler is a neat touch to the rear.

From the two pre-production models, one finished in red and other in black, the latter looks like the top-spec model. It gets alloy wheels and chrome.

The VW Virtus will have a longer wheelbase than the 2017 VW Polo (2,564 mm) freeing up more knee room for rear passengers. Spy shots suggest that the interior will look the same as that of hatchback it is derived from. Multifunction steering wheel, 10.2-inch virtual instrument cluster, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and automatic climate control are among the key interior features revealed so far. The steering wheel is hazy in both images but shows that cruise control is also included in the list of features. However, there's no sign of Adaptive Cruise Control.

According to the report, Volkswagen will offer the VW Virtus with 120 cv (120 hp) 1.6-litre MSI and 128 cv (128 hp) 1.0-litre TSI engines. Only the latter is likely to have the 6-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, either optionally or as standard. Volkswagen builds the Virtus at the Anchieta plant in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The first MQB A0 platform-based sedan will go on sale in South America in Q1 2018.
