The world premiere of the Mitsubishi Expander is set at the GIIAS 2017 auto show in Jakarta on August 10.

Autonetmagz writes that the Expander is based on the 1,500 cc 4A91 engine. The motor would be a reassembled version of the engine on the Mitsubishi Colt. It will deliver power to the front wheels via an automatic transmission that embraces CVT technology with six virtual speeds.

The Mitsubishi Colt 4A91 engine comes with a DOHC 16v engine configuration. It has a bore x stroke configuration of 72.0 mm x 84.8 mm and a compression ratio of 10.5: 1. In the Colt, it makes 120 PS at 6,000 rpm and maximum torque of 145 Nm at 4,000 rpm. In the interest of economy and taking the lower quality fuel of the country into consideration, Mitsubishi is reportedly downtuning the engine.

The Expander's rivals come with widely varying outputs. The Suzuki Ertiga makes 92 PS & 130 Nm, and at the high-end, the Honda BR-V makes 120 PS and 140 Nm. The Toyota Avanza/Daihatsu Xenia twins offer 96.5 hp and 120 Nm. Mitsubishi could create a sub-segment between the LMPV and the crossover with specifications to match.

Honda BR-V Indonesia
In the light UV segment, the Honda BR-V is the king of the mountain in output, developing 120 PS & 140 Nm.

The Expander will mark Mitsubishi's entry into the light utility vehicles segment of Indonesia. It will be manufactured at Mitsubishi's new factory in West Java. Alliance partner Nissan is reportedly rehashing the vehicle to take it to markets where the Nissan Grand Livina needs a successor. A more recent report said MMC plans to export Expanders to Europe.
