Local car enthusiasts have snapped an undisguised Renault Kwid testing on a highway in Tehran. Unlike the example spotted in October 2016, the Kwid here seems an LHD. It also appears identical to the Kwid sold in South America.
This is confirmed by the presence of a rear windscreen wiper with defogger, larger wheels and adjustable rear headrests, all of which the Indian Kwid lacks. Also, the Kwid produced in India is solely RHD units. For Iranian and Middle Eastern markets, the Kwid will be produced by the Renault-Saipa JV in Tehran. It is unclear when will the rugged hatchback enters production and starts arriving at showrooms.
Given that it is based on the South American-spec Kwid expect top-end versions with MediaNav 2.0 touchscreen system with built-in GPS, reverse camera, electric trunk opening, power ORVMs, fog lamps, chrome-finished door handles, rear wiper and defogger, and analogue instrument dials flanked by a round multi-info display. It could also get four airbags + ABS, as well as the structural reinforcements introduced exclusively for the South American version.
Under the hood could be the 1.0-litre three-cylinder SCe petrol engine that develops 68 PS at 5,500 rpm and 91 Nm of torque at 4,250 rpm. It could come with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard or an Easy-R automated manual transmission.
