Days after reports of Yamaha introducing a new Yamaha R25 in less than a year, IwanBanaran claims that road tests have begun. Two IWB readers in Indonesia are said to have seen test units, but no images have been shared. The bike is said to have a new set of headlamps.
The tail lamp console is said to gain design inspiration from the Yamaha MX King. The front suspension setup though is a standard telescopic unit instead of an upside down. The bike may get several technological features from the Yamaha R15 v3.0. These include LED headlamp and slipper clutch.
The quarter litre faired sports oriented motorcycle competes against the maniac Honda CBR250RR and the Kawasaki Ninja 250. With the latter expecting a major update this year, a similar timeline for the renewed Yamaha R25 is on the cards. The R25 facelift will also translate to a new Yamaha R3 sold in markets which do not have a capacity restriction.
The present generation of Yamaha R25 gets a 249 cc in-line twin cylinder mill. The engine is capable of producing 36 PS of power at 12,000 rpm and 22.6 Nm of torque at 10,000 rpm. The gearbox is a 6-speed unit. The powerplant in the Yamaha R25 facelift can be in line for an overhaul to squeeze out more horsepower. This will bring the bike closer to the segment leader Honda CBR250RR which has an output of 38.7 PS.
The Yamaha R25 presently carries a price tag of IDR 56.2 million, and a new version will get a slightly higher price tag.
