2017 VW Polo production to commence on 17 July

Goes on sale in Spain in October.

Volkswagen had confirmed earlier this year that the 2017 VW Polo would enter production in June, but the schedule has changed. The sixth generation VW Polo's production will start on 17 July 2017.

The plant that will kickstart the sixth-gen VW Polo's production is the Volkswagen Navarra facility. The Spanish plant, which started making the VW Polo back in 1984, began preparing for the new generation model's production in 2012. It has produced more than 2.4 million units of the A05 Polo since 2009.

Based on the MQB A0 platform, the 2017 VW Polo measures 4,053 mm in length, 1,751 mm in width and 1,446 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,564 mm. The redesigned model offers 351 litres of boot space.

The 2017 VW Polo will sell with nine engine options, including petrol, petrol-CNG and diesel, with displacements ranging from 1.0- to 2.0-litre and maximum power output ranging from 48 kW (65 PS) to 147 kW (200 PS). Here are the configurations:

  • 48 kW (65 PS) 1.0-litre MPI petrol, 5-speed manual transmission
  • 55 kW (75 PS) 1.0-litre MPI petrol, 5-speed manual transmission
  • 70 kW (95 PS) 1.0-litre TSI petrol, 5-speed manual transmission/7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission
  • 85 kW (115 PS) 1.0-litre TSI petrol, 6-speed manual transmission/7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission
  • 110 kW (150 PS) 1.5-litre TSI Evo petrol, 6-speed manual transmission/7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission
  • [GTI-only] 147 kW (200 PS) 2.0-litre TSI petrol, 6-speed manual transmission/7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission
  • 66 kW (90 PS) 1.0-litre TGI CNG-petrol, 5-speed manual transmission
  • 59 kW (80 PS) 1.6-litre TDI diesel, 5-speed manual transmission
  • 70 kW (95 PS) 1.6-litre TDI diesel, 5-speed manual transmission/7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission
