The R-Line grade will sit at the top of the standard 2017 VW Polo range.

The VW Polo dons a more mature look with an evolutionary design and inspiration from the VW Golf. Volkswagen has the design mix spot on again with proportions largely unchanged and a body that is longer and wider for more cabin space and lower for a sportier stance and improved aerodynamics. Official figures are still a couple of hours away, but media reports say that the sixth generation VW Polo will measure 4,053 mm (+81 mm) in length, 1,751 mm (+69 mm) in width and 1,446 mm (-7 mm) in height, and have a wheelbase of 2,564 mm (+94 mm).

The first image (above) shows the R-Line grade of the 2017 VW Polo, which Volkswagen will position as the most stylish grade of the standard variant. The 2017 VW Polo R-Line gets exterior styling features like "R-Line" badge on the upper grille, black lip spoiler, gloss black lower bumper garnish that surrounds the fog lamps in a C-shape, gloss black roof, large alloy wheels and gloss black side and roof spoilers.

The second image (below) shows the 2017 VW Polo GTI, the flagship variant of the Polo series. Besides a slightly different gloss black lower bumper garnish, the GTI variant gets the unique honeycomb radiator grille with a red line flowing into the headlamps, honeycomb lower grille, "GTI" badge above the front fenders, bigger wheels, red brake callipers and gloss black roof spoiler.

The 2017 VW Polo's extensive range of engines is expected to include 1.0-litre MPI naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol, 1.5-litre TSI Evo turbocharged petrol and 1.6-litre TDI turbocharged diesel units. The 2017 VW Polo GTI should sport the 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine with around 200 PS on tap.
