The 2017 Honda Civic Type R started reaching the U.S. dealerships last month, and now it is ready for deliveries in Canada, latest images shared by Jason Richmond on HondaPro Jason Twitter account have revealed. The first-ever Honda Civic Type R to sell in the country is priced at CA$42,485 (INR 20,74,581.63).
Based on the latest Honda Civic Hatchback, the fifth generation Honda Civic Type R measures 4,557 mm in length, 2,087 mm (including mirrors) and 1,434 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. The hot hatch sits low to the ground, with the ground clearance measuring at 132 mm. The Type R variant has some sporty exterior modifications including front, side and rear spoilers, a big rear wing spoiler, 20-inch alloy wheels shod with 245/30R 20 Continental ContiSportContact 6 performance and triple centre exhausts and an air intake on the aluminium hood.
The 2017 Honda Civic Type R is 16 kg lighter than the old model and 7 kg lighter the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback. The Type R variant gets exclusive spring, damper and bushing settings, a new Dual-Axis front suspension setup with aluminium lower arms and steering knuckles for improved at-the-limit cornering and reduced torque steer, a helical limited-slip front differential and a retuned and adaptive dual-pinion electric power steering system with variable gear ratio. Also specific to the range-topping variant is a revised four-wheel Adaptive Damper System with three-chamber upgraded shock absorber units.
The 2017 Honda Civic Type R is powered by the 2.0-litre VTEC TURBO turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that puts out 306 hp at 6,500 rpm and 295 lb.-ft. (399.97 Nm) of torque from 2,500 rpm to 4,500 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. The driver can select from Comfort, Sport and +R drive modes, which tweak the steering and throttle response, the adaptive damper system and transmission rev-matching accordingly. A 0-100 km/h takes 5.7 seconds, and the car tops out at 272 km/h. 350 mm disc brakes with Brembo 4-piston aluminium callipers at the front and 305 mm solid disc brakes at the rear provide the stopping power.
